Should I get a SLOR?

I am currently on an away rotation in EM. I just got off of an EM away at a Top-rank program and got an Honors grade with an extrememly strong SLOR ( I haven't read it but that is what I have been lead to believe by the person writing it). I was wondering if it would be a faux pas to ask the person here to write me a letter only if it would help (because it is a little late). My concern is that an above average but not outstanding letter would detract from the strong letter I received from the other program. Any thoughts? Also, this late in the game would it be the end of the world (albeit suicide for the program i am at right now) if i did not get a letter from this program?

If you only have 1 SLOR, then yes, get another. If you already have 2, then you don't need it. Besides, you can always ask for it and not send it to anybody (but the program that wrote it).

Can't you get a letter and ONLY assign it to that program?

So I think the answer to this question depends on how many letters you have right now.

If you have less than 4 total letters or if you only have one SLOR, then I'd probably get one from your present rotation.

If you have 4 letters uploaded to ERAS and at least 2 of those are SLORS, I think you're fine not getting a SLOR from the present program. Plus you can't really send anymore through ERAS, but could send it to each program individually.

If you don't get a SLOR, you should get your grade and comments about you after the rotation (i.e. the comments they send for your medical school file) and either mail that to the programs or take it in hand to your interviews to give them. You have a right to see that grade and those comments, so don't worry about that whole "waived my right to see the evaluation" for this stuff like you do for the SLOR. The LAST thing you want is to have nothing from your present rotation at all because it some may think you might be hiding something. Not saying you are doing this at all, but I've heard multiple program directors say that rotating somewhere and having no evaluation (i.e. either a SLOR or comments and grade) is a HUGE red flag and you just don't want to take that chance.
