Your description of yourself describes me to the T. Kinda worrisome considering the doubts I already have. But nonetheless I'm going to give it everything I can. Before I get too buried in debt I'm going to judge if this is the life I want to live and go from there. After all the work I've put in to get where I am today, I can't just throw it away without trying. Maybe I'll love it, but i have to find out. Luckily my school has a low tuition cost and I would only be 45k in debt after M1. Thanks again for all the advice
Unfortunately M1 doesn't really give you a good idea of what M2, M3, and M4 years will be like. Each was its own beast to tackle. M1 at my school was VERY similar to undergrad IMO but add on a lot more time studying and in class. M2 was learning to be mentally OK with being a hermit. M3 was learning to hit the ground running and kiss ass. M4 it seems will be begging for letters, putting together a good app and interviewing. I think the real way to decide would be to shadow some of the roles you are more interested in. Maybe your undergrad or future med school has a career counselor who could hook you up with people doing less traditional DO work.
Good luck with your decision!
