Should I go on Temple interview if I’m already into UMiami?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Unless money is a significant barrier, then yes. They're both great schools and you might prefer Philly.

Pending your financial situation. Are you dead set on UMiami? If yes, turn it down and hopefully the interview goes to someone who hasn't received an interview. If there is a small part of you that is interested in attending Temple, go to the interview. Otherwise, save money to pay for med school and don't get in trouble! Best of luck and congrats!

Yea hahaha Im in the MD program.

TBH you should do whatever you want - Im not here to push you one way or the other. Med school is a big decision and dont let anyone sway you.

...That said, the other day I spent 2 hours studying flashcards while floating in my buildings rooftop pool, then went to a Med vs Law Beach volleyball game that was actually on the beach. It was 78 degrees and I wore flip-flops. On my way home I bought fresh caught Pink Key West shrimp right off the boat, and BBQ'd them on my porch while watching the sunset.

Try doing that in Philly in February.

I'm full of regrets not applying to any Florida school right now.

I loved temple and they threw alot of money my way for me to attend. Its not P/F so thats something to worry about but from my interview day its an amazing institution.

UM is also not pass/fail
That sucks. OP do you have any schools interested in giving you a interview that is P/Fabian?? It really makes a difference on your mood for those first 2 years

Yea I love UM but can confirm - not P/F

Being ranked is a pain...the mood effect is real. Never had a problem with over competitive students, but nothing takes the air out of your sails quite like getting a “good” grade then seeing you were actually BELOW the average.

The not P/F doesn’t bother me, and I definitely prefer Miami to Philly. Does Miami have a better reputation than Temple though? Or are they roughly the same?

Pretty sure the schools with unranked pass/fail in preclinical years are mostly/entirely top schools. Top schools can get away without ranks or grades because the school name is strong enough to help students match into competitive residencies and specialties. Program directors know students from those schools are strong by the school name alone.

Low and mid tiers don’t have the school name benefit even if their education is excellent. And so, they have no choice but to have preclinical grades and ranks, so that program directors clearly know who are the best and brightest students from those schools.

Ranks and grades may also be factored in AOA, which is super important for those aiming for competitive programs.

What do you call a top school?? I went on plenty on interviews 15+ none of which I would consider top schools (good schools non the less ) and alot of them had Pass/fail

Also I don't see how your comment has anything to do with the convo at hand? I'm saying going to a true P/F school can make the first 2 years less stressful so if OP gets a interview from one of those schools he should check it out

I agree, i'm just saying true pass/fail is very hard to find unless it's a top school.

Are they true pass/fail? Without internal ranks? Because what i'm seeing, it's pretty rare. And mid tiers do rank internally. I don't know of any low tier or mid tier without preclinical grades or ranks. They are almost always schools like HMS, Yale, JHU, Stanford, Columbia, Lerner etc. All top schools.

School I go to I wouldn't consider a top school and we aren't ranked. No internal BS ranking which is continuously reminded to us by our dean. I don't think it is as rare as you think it is but again I only know for sure about my school others might have internal ranking on the down low.
