Should I go to the MD?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You might stumble onto a specialty that you really like in medical school and then have trouble matching into it because you selected a DO over a MD. There will be bias from program directors to applicants with a DO for some surgical fields.

This is arguably the most important aspect of your decision. If you value this over medical school environment and proximity to home, then go to MD.

I'm accepted to an MD school in a pretty isolated location with a very traditional class size (I am 27). I'm also in at some DO schools in more lively cities and with diverse students. These DO schools are close to home and cheaper.

I know it's a feat to get into any medical school but I'm concerned about fitting in at the MD school as non-trad and being far from my support system. At the same time, I am not 100% certain about my speciality choice. I like primary care and I am 90% sure that's where I'll go, but I'm not completely closed to the others...I'd like to learn more since I haven't explored them.

What should I do? Everyone says MD over DO, but are the advantages really that big here?
More doors are open to you as an MD.

If you're gunning for FM (or the DO-friendly specialties) then the DO is OK.
