Should I graduate in 3 or 4 years?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a starting Freshman at a local 4 year college.

What would Dental Schools think if I complete my Biology major in three years instead of four.

To complete in three years
*Use my AP credits
*Add a heavier Course work
*Might take some classes in the summer
*All cost are paid for, plus I keep the leftover aid.

If I do four years.
*After two years at my local 4 year College transfer to University of Georgia and complete my degree there
*Will only use some of my AP credit, because some not accepted at UGA
*Financial Aid won't cover all of the cost after transferring

or I could just stay the four years at my local 4 year.

What do you guys think would look best to the adcoms and why?

Do three years. Adcoms will not care if you completed a degree in two, three or four years as long as you have high marks and strong ECs.

cool thanks

oh and does it really matter what college you went to or is more about marks and DAT

Schools can care less about the number of years it took you to earn your degree. They just wanna make sure you've taken their prerequisites. And YES! It's somewhat important which college you graduate from. A GPA of 4.0 from a college no one knows is definitely not the same as a 3.4 GPA from a prestigious school. The 3.4 GPA although lower, will be taken more seriously and will be looked at as a true representation of your academic background.

College is the best time of your life (at least mine). Enjoy it and don't rush anything. Stay four years. Because I am pretty sure D school will be intense. Take your time and relax. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure what the dent schools will think, but I think you're nuts!😀

1) A bio degree is no walk in the park. I would definitely take my time with that.

2) Thumbing through my ADEA book, I can see that some dent schools won't accept AP credits. So be careful if any of those are dent school pre-reqs.

3) On that note, make sure you're aware of what the pre-reqs are. Start at the dental school and work backwards (ex: dent school needs you to have biochem 201, but then of course biochem 101 is the pre-req, but bio 201 is the pre-req for that, and then bio 101 is the pre-req for bio 201, etc).

4)MIGHT take some summer courses? No, you WILL be taking summer courses. Even if you want to try and graduate in 4 years. Do the math; 12 credit hours is full time. 15 credit hours will kill you but it's not impossible (don't forget that the summer semester is usually condensed so you only take 6-9 hours during the summer). So even if you averaged 13 credits per fall/spring semester and 9 during the summers, you'd still be well into your 4th calendar year before you graduated.

My opinion, take your time. You're going to have to be a stellar student to get into dent school (The average GA dental school enrollee has a 3.6). So make sure you leave yourself enough time to get it done right. Besides, why the rush?

GOOD LUCK!

go hit up some grls man.
