I have recently been accepted to a BS/MD program and just put in my 2 weeks for my job as a CNA. I did it through email because I work night shift and never see the manager... I feel as if I should have called or walked in during the manager's hours and told her...

Is quitting by email looked down upon? Am I a d--- for doing so? Should I call before my next shift? Tune in next time on DRAGON BALL Z........ no but seriously, is this an unprofessional way to quit?

Thanks!!!

Are you just starting college now? You'll soon discover that it is always better to have everything in writing. You're fine. If you really liked your job or your manager you can always just stop by and see her to talk about it.

Honestly, I have always hand-delivered resignation letters to my direct supervisor. But if you told your direct supervisor and emailed the manager that you never see, it's probably okay.

It's fine and no one will care. Given your situation I think it was appropriate, I've been an employer and I would always prefer someone to hand me a letter and inform me in person when giving notice. However, that's not always possible and the important thing is to give notice and be respectful.

Thanks for the responses everyone... I would have preferred to see the manager in person but I'm just too busy studying...

I recently sent a two sentence resignation email to my boss. Oops.

As long as you subscribed to the correct format, then you're fine:

Boss,
I quit.

Nowdays, physical copies aren't always necessary as it's much easier to keep track of things on the interwebz but yea, in the future, it's always a good idea keep tangible evidence...unless the evidence is against you and in that case, burn it all...
