Applying MD, submitted July 13th to two schools was thinking of adding more then got my MCAT scores, which were OK except for PS, ive never got a 7 in PS on practice tests no idea where that came from, sucks cuz i gotta retake just to bring that score up. i'd retake in early september, all my other stats are great published 2x , won research contest first author, amazing letters of rec, lots of community service and well over 200 hours of clinical work, also a cancer survivor, dont know what thatll do but cant ignore it here. Should i just wait till next year? or roll the dice with a few lower tier places?

**have a while to be verified so I could still withdraw without a reapplicant penalty.

Some MD schools will auto-screen out for that 7, and even if they don't it will be in their lowest percentages. How were you doing on practice tests? Do you think you can do better?

I avg 9/10's on both BS and PS so im worried bout my 11 going down but i KNOW i can bring the 7 way up, im essentially retaking for one section

Retaking for one section is a wild-card though, just be wary of that.

Aim for low tiers and your state schools, and any DO school. See how the app cycle goes, and retake if you get shut out. You seem to have a compelling life story and my gut says this my be one of those rare situations that can overcome a poor (for MD) MCAT score.

Sometime one has to apply with the app one has, warts and all. Good luck and keep in touch, OK?

Thanks I will! And I'm hoping the same, I know some schools take your best individual section scores so I'll probably try that too.

State of residence?

State of residence is MA ...uhg

Yeah you've got a small chance at UMass but their MCAT average last year was 32.

Other than that you might get lucky at a few low tier places.

Either way that 7 PS will get you screened out at many schools and there's a good chance you'll need to reapply.

It all depends on whether you're willing to spend the money.

thanks, I think i'm just going to retake for a better PS score then reapply next year, I'm not looking to go high tier

Just a word of encouragement! I hope you get some love this cycle if you decide to go for it. Cancer survivors are amazing. Hopefully your story will get you far.

Thought I'd update this: was going to withdraw, ended up being verified for 3 schools( not expecting much) got secondaries for each, filling them out. Figured I'd roll the dice, still retaking mcat for a better PS score and these are schools I probably wouldn't apply to next year eliminating reapplicant status next year. So yah see what happens...
