Hi guys, I did a program similar to Teach for America (but not that one) overseas. I was placed by a larger centralized organization at a specific school, where I did not get along well with the staff. It was a mix of it being my first job (I was often late, which I really regret), language/cultural misunderstandings, and discrimination as a direct supervisor took issue with my sexuality and singled me out because of it. Since it was my first job, I reacted to this situation largely by becoming more withdrawn, which just fed the gossip mill and distanced me from my friends at work. This was all also several years ago (2019). I know better now and have had nothing but great work experiences since.
I quit after 4 months. I was not fired. However, I easily could have been had I stayed longer. I don't think people at the school would speak well of me, if they even remember me. While I had issues with the workplace, I did learn a lot from teaching. I wanted to include it on my application because it's interesting and I have stories from class activities and interacting with the students. This is also my only teaching experience. I was thinking about including the contact information of the the person who hired/ran my position from the "Teach for America" central office. They could verify that they did hire me and that I did work there without introducing any potential drama. Is this a bad idea? I'm like "what if they call and ask for the specific school and then call them directly".
Other things to consider: this was in another country in a very different time zone (morning here is night there), and at a school where most of the staff don't speak English
