If you are posting this question on SDN, the answer is always no.

For the most part, personal statements are only things that can raise red flags about you. You only want positive things and boring things in your statement.

If you really have to ask the question of if something belongs, it doesn't.

Should I mention that I never asked what I should mention in my PS, in my PS?

Devil's advocate: My PS was pretty risky. Some of my secondaries were even moreeeee risky. Holy crap. Extremely touchy subjects thinking back now. Of course I questioned if I should include these things. However, I worked hard to present them just right. With the high risk came great reward. It was brought up at schools like Hopkins that the reason why they invited me to interview was because the things I wrote about stood out. My research is probably comparable to any other MSTP applicant, but I stood out in other ways.

However, I never asked anyone here if I should put these things in my essays. Because it truly didn't matter what others thought. These things I wrote about are a vital part of my story, so I went with the risk haha.

At least I had a previous app cycle to really fine tune the presentation though (both in the essays and in the interviews). But I had two things up my sleeve I did not mention in the first cycle (because I thought it was risky and a bit cliche). I went all out the second cycle.

I consider my personal statement somewhat risky. But hardly since I made it all into a learning moment (revelation) type of deal.
I think that for most instances this is this case.
It does concern me though when students write something to the effect, "Im a serial killer, would this add intrigue to my personal statement?"
