So two weeks ago my job at a laboratory ended and I no longer work in research, I now work at an art gallery because I've already been accepted to a pharmacy school and I am so busy this month I was looking for a more laid back and easy job.

I was wondering though, if I'm asked about my work experience, should I tell them I work at an art gallery? I know at UOP I was just sitting around with a current student and another interviewee and they were talking about their jobs at a pharmacy, and they asked me if I work and I told them I work at an art gallery and I think maybe they looked quite puzzled (still smiling of course.. lol) but I felt a little akward. I love my job right now its so interesting and I'm just really looking for a job I can enjoy since its my last year in college.

Any opinions? 😕

Do you mean....when you're asked in an interview situation?

Was this "sitting around" with the student & interviewee at UOP during your interview day?

If that was the case....no, I would not have mentioned the art gallery job, but that dye is cast, so don't worry about it anymore. There is nothing wrong in an art gallery job, but in some eyes, it might diminish your other work experience, which you don't want to do. So, in the future you might handle it by saying yes, you've worked, but in a research position. You don't need to go into it further....just leave it at that.

Most interviewers don't want to know your specific dates of hire, etc...they just want to know if you've had experience in the healthcare field at all.

There's nothing wrong with you wanting to relax a bit, particularly since your research position has finished. And, since you have an acceptance, I wouldn't worry - just don't volunteer the information in any part of the interview day at all - not because you should be embarrassed, but because you don't want to negate your other, more relevant work experiences.

Yeah that seems like the smartest thing to do, thanks for the advice SDN1977! 🙂

And the UOP incident wasn't during the interview, it was during one of our breaks. I'm just preparing for western's interview this saturday and I read that they ask you that question during the interview.

zomg, if they ask that question to me, I'll be a deadmeat for sure since I've never had a job related to healthcare field >.<;;;;

So far I've only worked at restaurants T__T

Good info for life here - during an interview...plan to be "on" at all times you're at the facility. During a school interview - like pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, etc....& even into residencies...the "laid back" times reflect on how you are in a more relaxed setting. Likewise, during a job interview, while waiting in the secretary's office....he'll/she'll notice if you fidget, grumble, talk to yourself, etc...

All that will go back to those who make the decisions. The reasons are that this is a career, but you have to work with many people & during a school situation, you have to be able to be with these people a long time. They want to be sure you'll fit in - not just for their sake - for yours as well.

Crystal - don't panic! You need to be prepared for this question - in an official format or unofficial like polar had. But...you can put a good spin on what you have done. Something like - no - I've never had the opportunity to work in healthcare, but not because I've not wanted to (don't go into all the reasons why not). But...I've worked in restaurants & understand how important being able to communicate needs & wants can be. You might take that then on a track where you can discuss how important communication is in pharmacy, your strengths, etc....

Just be prepared for the question - it will be asked! And - the minute you step foot on campus, you are "on" until you get in the cab back to the airport!

Don't worry, you're not the only one who'll be there Saturday with no healthcare related experience. I've done restaurant, gas station, and currently utility customer service. I just play on similarities in broad general terms. I receive customer requests, input customer information, enter appropriate order, explain billing information, and ensure customer safety. Sounds pretty close to retail pharmacy don't you think? (Also sounds like taking the customer's order and delivering the check:idea: minus the safety part, unless you picked glass out of their food or something😱 )
