Hi everyone.. Hope you are all doing well. : )

So my story.. I always wanted to pursue medicine but went to law school due to practical reasons. Next year I'm a JD but I don't want to be a lawyer.
The thought of pursuing medicine/dentistry has never really disappeared.

It's been one year since my diagnose of Crohn's ..and even though I'm not on medicine (anymore) I am low energy, have headaches and I have to wake up 1 hour earlier just for my stool..

I am so scared of failing.. Should I pursue my dream regardless of Crohns?

seems like you're not really sure of what you want nor do you really understand how difficult dental school really is. The public conception (which is wrong) is that dental school is a joke and way easier than medical school. Not only is that a blatant lie, its also a pipe dream. Dental school requires 60 to 80 hours of hard work each week. We don't get out of class at 1Pm like the meds to go study didactic, we sit in lectures all day long only to have lab work waiting for us at night. (there's way more than this but I'm just barely scratching the surface)

Also it seems like you're picking careers based on income or prestige, if you're already 120K in debt due to your law degree I don't see why going into another profession is a smart move. You need to have all pre-reqs, go well on the DAT or MCAT and have the recommendation letters and shadowing opportunities to even have a shot. You'll also need to explain why you're flip-flopping careers and why dental or medical is really for you.

I don't want to be a debbie downer but those are the stone cold facts. Also ask yourself if you even know enough of what a Dentist does or what the job entails before you think about this field. For now you seem to be in it for the wrong reasons, but that might just be my assumption.

I don't understand why you're making such hasty decisions about me.
Unlike you think, I DO know how hard medicine & dentistry is. I know that it takes alot and that the hours are pretty hectic. I live in Europe and you should know that the income isn't all that great in either profession (unlike the states) so that is not my motivation. Besides..I have no debt since I worked for every penny to be in law school.

From an early age I wanted to provide care in a medical sense, but we don't have things like DAT / MCAT here.. so I tried to find my happiness in the legal field. I found it but it wasn't enduring...

So now I am back at what I originally wanted to do.. Does that make me a bad person?

no one is saying you're a bad person. All I'm saying is that you will really need to know what you want to do and why you want to do it.

If you plan to do either one you should shadow and see what you like, understand that it will take way more than 4 years and that Dental school is no joke and its a hard as heck.

If you are willing to work hard then you have you're answer right there. If you feel you can overcome your disease while being in school for 60+ hours each week then you should definitely go for it. I'm not here to kill your dream but tell you it's not a joke.
