hey there...im working on my personal statement and thinking about writing a paragraph or two about how i have improved since last cycle. however, i am not applying to the same schools this time...in fact, half the school i am applying to this cycle will be be my first time....should i include this paragraph and mention that I am a reapplicant?

Also...can someone read my Personal statement rough draft...please let me know!!! thanks

I don't think it' s a bad idea at al to tell the schools you're a re-app. To me it would show perseverance, dedication, and persistance. I was never ashamed to tell the adcoms that it was my 2nd time applying. You can PM me your statment if you like, but I gotta give you a diclaimer that I'm not the best writer in the world.

On the otherhand, in my opinion, to do so, would be kinda corny.

The maxim, that if you're asking whether or not to do it, should let you know it is probably not the best idea.

What I perceive the adcoms to be doing, is to look for reasons to get rid of applicants. If you give them the old, "... i've been rejected before routine." It may make them more suspicious about your app. If they ask for it, which some secondaries do, then put your explanations for the second go around in there, and not in the ps.

In other words, I believe there to be a time and a place for certain things. Reapp statement belongs in the secondaries, and why you want to go into medicine belongs in the personal statement.

I don't think it is necessary to take up space on your ps to discuss how you are a re-applicant, especially since many of the schools you are applying to this year are ones that you did not apply to last cycle. Use that space to talk about other things that you want the admissions committees to know about you and why you are pursuing medicine as a career.

I would only do it if it enhances what you are trying to portray about yourself... if you can weave it so that it makes you look like you're a better person, somehow.
