I'm planning on taking the dat on july 6 but i'm currently taking a summer course right now which ends in mid june.

This will leave about 3 solid weeks to study for the dat.

Of course im studying a bit everyday during my summer course but i feel that i may not be ready by july 6.

i would like to reschedule the dat around mid july but the only available date is at the end of july.

would taking the dat at the end of july be too late?

my original plan was to get everything else in by early-mid july and send in the dat scores after july 6.

i'm having doubts so please give me some advice

thanks!

To tell you the truth 3 weeks of hard core studying, 7-8 hours a day, and you will be fine as long as you already have a decent science background. I've been studying everyday for 7 hours since May 4th and my scores are around 20 on TopScore. I take the DAT next Friday so I'll post my scores after I'm done.

that's about how much time im giving myself to to study too.. i've studied 2 weeks so far.. scoring ok in achievers. I think u'll be fine 🙂.

Personally, I don't think three weeks of "solid" studying is sufficient for getting competitive scores (anything 21 and above). However, you may be able to earn scores in the 19-20 range.
Although late July may be a bit late for taking the DAT, but taking it then and getting a decent score is better than taking it when you know you're not ready and messing it up.

i read that aadas take a while to process your application so taking the dat a bit later was ok but what would be the latest recommended date to take the dat?

I would like to know the answer to that also. I'm taking summer classes and they don't end until mid-July. I haven't really studied "hardcore" for the exam...just...read over the kaplan book. I am taking it June 8th but I have been thinking of rescheduling.

I went to the UCSF outreach event and the admissions said as long as you take your exam no later than early august you should be just fine. As you know it takes roughly three weeks for your scores to be sent. This means they would recieve your score by the end of august at latest. This is still before a majority of interviews have been given out and you can still be considered an "early" and not late applicant. hope that helps

i recommend waiting until you feel 100% ready for the exam. I was supposed to take it in mid may but wasnt scoring as high on practice exams as i wanted so i postponed it until june 4th. I know i feel better about the exam and will do better. Honestly, if you feel that a few wks will prepare you and you can nail down the infor than take the exam but there is not reason to rush it if you feel you will not score competitvely. At least thats my take on the situation. Good luck to you, i know i'll need it.lol.

Whatever you do, keep in mind that the later AADSAS receives your scores, the later they will forward them to your designated schools, which means you'll probably get a later interview, which means you'll be competing for fewer spots.
However, if you end up with good DAT scores, you shouldn't have any problem getting one of the few remaining spots.
So, I guess my recommendation is that if you're planing on taking the DAT after mid July, make sure you come out of that test with good scores, or your chances of admission will drop significantly.

I know everybody has their own pace of studying and learning the material presented on the DAT, but for me I don't think 3 weeks of hardcore studying would be enough. I think end of July would still be considered fine. It is better to study and prepare enough to get a good score rather than rushing and then not scoring high. If you rush and don't get the score you want, you will have to wait at least another 3 months to take it again.
