Hey guys,

I am currently taking the TPR Course right now, and we are about half way through the course (Ends 8/11) and I am currently signed up to write the test on August 27th. However, when I do content review/passage practice, I feel that I am greatly lacking in content knowledge and that is leading me to poor practice scores (and I know I can do better). This is making me think that I should reschedule.

What are your opinions? Should I reschedule now? Or wait until the date is closer?

If I reschedule, the closest time available would be in October- would that give me too much time, in turn leading to burn outs? Or is that ample time for me to study/practice? This is my only commitment as of now (Gap year, can apply next cycle due to weak ECs).

EDIT: To add some information: The reason I feel far from ready is because I took the AAMC#10 about 2-3 weeks ago (1 week into classes) and got a 20- 6/5/9, and took the TPR#1 again less than a week ago and got similar scores! I was so disappointed- and this leads me to feeling to reschedule. My eventual goal is at least 30+, but my dream is 33... is August enough time?

Please help- I really appreciate and value your opinions!

Do not take the test if you're not ready! Take it once when you are most prepared =)

October is <3 months away, which isn't too much time. Just pace yourself, and spend the last few weeks taking AAMC self-assessments and the AAMCs that TPR Online provides.

Good luck!

Thanks! Would you say that the feeling of being underprepared I am having is a bad indicator to if I should reschedule or not? Or should I just go ahead and change the date?

There will always be a certain amount of feeling that you could have studied more, but that is true for all major exams. I would say that you should not write the exam until you are getting your desired scores on practice exams, and you are comfortable with the timing, endurance, and content. As you said, you are in a gap year so there is no point rushing to write in August vs. October. Committed studying over the next 3 months could do wonders for your score.

Also, the TPR exams tend to produce slightly lower scores in my experience. Don't let those scare you. Just be sure to fully diagnose all of your correct and incorrect answers for each exam. I found the AAMC exams to be the best indicator of real MCAT performance. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragements! I would say that MCAT is the most demoralizing test I have ever prepared for. BUT- We can do this!

On the other hand, have you guys rescheduled before? If so, what did you use the extra time you had on??

Don't take the test until you are ready. I moved mine back 6 weeks and altough I received a mediocre score by sdn standards, a 28, those extra weeks helped greatly. If you don't feel ready move the test back a few weeks its not the end of the world.

^Thanks, I am seriously thinking about it. Does anyone know if I reschedule now, can I reschedule later? Because I really prefer the 1PM test dates, but they only have 8AM ones now...

you should be able to do it by october. With your gap year and no classes to study for then you should be ready. I started studing in May after finals and took it 5 weeks later. My first practice test was around 22 or 24, I forget, in two weeks took my practice score to high 20s with 12+ hour study days. Then with 3 more weeks of long days took it to mid to high 30s, the last week i was doing 2 full length practice tests every day, with intense studying of why I missed questions. . my actual test score is a 37. (11/12/14). so you can do it.
