Hi guys,

So it has been months after submitting my application with no interview invite ( and I only applied to the 3 Texas schools for family reason). I have been thinking to retake DAT for next cycle. I would like some advises whether or not I should re-take my DAT. Thank you in advance for any of your contribution!!!

Undergrad oGPA 3.47
sGPA 3.38
Graduated with a master in science
sGPA 3.83
oGPA(includes undergrad) 3.53
DAT break down:
PAT 22
Bio. 21
GC. 19
OC. 19
RC. 21
QR. 21
TS. 20
AA. 20
With research
150 hrs of shadowing with both general and oral surgeon
120 hrs volunteer
Non-traditional student as a single mother with 3 children
Residency: Texas

Since I haven't heard anything since after submitting my application on the 1st of July. I would like to start studying for the DAT for the next cycle. Hoping I can aim for 22 or higher. Any advise will be helpful. Thank you very much, guys!!

I agree with @Likkriue no need to retake the DAT, but I definitely apply to more than just three schools.

That's my plan for the next cycle. It's just my mom still getting her cancer treatment right now in Dallas. It's just more convenient for me to stay in state so that I can translate for her when we go to the hospital and plus my parents live with me. It's tougher to get a family of 6 to move together you know...

I'm in a similar situation (non trad student with similar GPA/DAT); also a Texas resident/applicant. I took my DAT at the end of July and my application wasn't complete until mid August. Applied to all TX schools plus 2 OOS; no word from anywhere yet.

I think we just have to be patient. Our scores are about the same as the average matriculated student in Texas. Let's cross our fingers! Hope your mom will be ok!

a lot of us took the DAT only having to worry about the DAT and nothing else besides a part time job etc. you on the other hand are raising a family while studying for the DAT and i must say I'm impressed. i dont think most college kids could handle that. talk about dealing with stress and pressure! your scores are very good and you should be very proud of yourself. the skys the limit, you will be in dental school very soon!

It is obvious from what you have posted on this thread that you are very dedicated individual and accomplished all this while raising 3 children. I would call the schools or if possible make an in person visit and inquire about the interview process, deadlines, timelines etc. I just advised a student to contact the schools and he found out an email should have been sent regarding an interview and was overlooked. Mistakes do happen on occasion. Your stats and scores are fantastic and you should be proud of them. Congratulations on a job well done.

Keep us posted

Wishing you the best...Nancy

Thank you, Nancy! I appreciate for your advise. I'll certainly email the schools today to ensure I didn't overlook. I'll keep you posted.
Btw, thank you very much for DAT Destroyers. I owed my score to DAT Destroyer, Chad's, Cliff's and DAT Bootcamp. I probably would score a higher DAT score if I didn't try to be frugal and buy used ones in much older version from a friend of mine. So, it was my fault. But, that to say the power of DAT destroyers. You guys made the impossible possible. In fact, 2 of my sons want to be dentists when they grow up, so I'm sure Destroyer will be the number 1 materials I'll recommend to them. Thank you, again!!
