Hello everyone!🙂

I have a question for all of you who know about the Pharmcas system.

Long long ago when I was just a silly teenager right out of high school I enrolled in 4 classes at a local community college. I then had to drop them because I moved to San Diego (due to an emergency). All was well until I started taking classes again years later and requested my transcripts.......It was revealed to me that only 2 of the 4 classes were dropped and the remaining 2 were F's. One was a math course in which I had to retake, but the other one is a Nutrition GE class. It is not a prereq for pharmacy school, in fact my biology classes would go over the material covered in the class. I feel it would br redundant (sp?) to take it over, but I don't want to ruin my GPA. The other option for me is to "bracket" this class on my transcript and get "academic renewal" which basically means that it will still be on my transcripts, but not calculated in the GPA.

Anyone have any suggestions or have been through anything like this?

Thanks, Susan 🙂

Is the bracket thing an option at your current school? PharmCAS will average in every attempt, so if you want your PharmCAS GPA to increase, you'd need to retake the courses.

Each school to which you apply has their own individual method of deriving GPAs. For instance, School A may take your highest score (grade forgiveness). School B may take an average of every attempt, just like PharmCAS. Check with the schools to find out what you should do.

Academic Renewal (Bracket thing 🙂) is something that CA public schools (Cal State, UC and community colleges) recognize with one another. This could be nation wide as well, but I am not sure. After completing 18-20 units at a college you can petition a grade at another college, this is called academic renewal. Some colleges will wipe out the entire semester even if you only want one grade removed as a kind of "punishment", while others only "bracket" the grade requested. It is a lengthy process, but is probably less time consuming than repeating a course that you did poorly in.

FutureRXGal I will call the pharmacy schools directly regarding this. Thanks for the info!🙂

So if you retake the class 799 times and recieve an A you could replace the F with a 4.00 under the bracketing system. Meanwhile, you only have to retake the class once and get an A to get a 4.00 under the forgiveness system. I think I like the forgiveness system better. 🙄
