here's my situation in a nutshell. got a 21/21/18 on the canadian DATs but only a 19/20/18 on the US DATs. i applied to 7 schools..only heard from nyu re: the interview and now im waitlisted there. my only other option is to do d school here in quebec in french..really dont want to do that so im praying i can wheel myself into nyu come the early summer. i have great lor's,plenty of shadowing, research as well and a solid ec background. overall i'd say my application is quite strong save for my mediocre gpa.

i have time off right now and just rewrote the canadian DATs. i feel i did extremely well and the material is still very fresh in my mind. so the question is...should i rewrite the us DATs (and just brush up on OC and QR) in a few weeks or so and shoot for a 21-22 academic average..or do u feel i could still crack into nyu with what i've currently got going?

tough call. but i feel i can do better on the DATs..but obviously i wouldnt want to risk doing the same or g-d forbid worse..putting the kaibosh on my application. thanks!

I thought all or most US schools accepted the CDAT. Why did you take the US version?

felt it would give me an edge if i did well on it..a few admissions coordinators told me its an unwritten rule that usa schools accept the cdn dat but definitely prefer if you write their version. puts you on more of an even keel

You should illegally cross the border and get a fake Social Security Number. Works for some....

haha..alright. any serious opinions?

im leaning towards not rewriting it..a 20 TS score is unspectacular but solid for NYU i think.

o btw..any one have any tips for how to successfully navigate one's self off the waitlist? I plan on sending the director of admissions there a letter of intent with my updated cdn DAT scores and a short letter of reference from the dentist I am currently working for.

Your scores are not bad, although they do not stand out. If you feel you can improve them, re-testing is always an option as you say. However, are there other areas in your application that are weak that you can bolster? Obviously can't do much with the GPA right now unless you want to go to grad school.

well actually i will be doing a Masters in Dental Science at McGill University starting in August if I dont get in anywhere this cycle..so thats a given. But I still have a good chance of getting into NYU this year I think..my friends who are currently students there tell me the waitlist moves very well, especially if you remain active and do things to improve your overall application..so I'm quite optimistic of eventually getting in there.

Hope you get in this round then. If not, i'm sure your masters will aid your application greatly. Good luck.

thanks man. but i did decide i am going to rewrite the DATs on March 13th. the day before i leave for spring break lol

I figure that I might as well go for broke now because if I dont get in off the NYU waitlist I will be doing a 2 year Masters program..so might as well do everything within my power now to make sure I crack in this cycle.

Anyone know if I am obligated to disclose my new scores? I expect to do well but assuming I don't do so hot..do I still have to forward them my scores??
