I've been wondering if I should just drop the MCAT and focus on the EC and work (still need to pay the bills, haha). I'm just not sure if re-taking the mcat is worth the risk of making a lower score. Would I be better off focusing on improving my EC a little (volunteering, shadowing) rather EC and MCAT? Any advice to which MD programs beside state schools I should apply to next time, if I don't retake the MCAT.

I have a high GPA and a 505 MCAT.
EC:
shadowing (need more)
volunteering (100+ hours)
1 year research experience.

Your stats are good for DO schools. If you are really determined to go to an MD school and confident that you can increase your MCAT score then go for it. If not, you are pretty good for DO and you can improve your ECs a little.

I had an MCAT score in a similar range and I was accepted to several DO schools and my in-state MD school. You are good for DO schools if the rest of your application is reasonable.
