Hello everyone!

I was wondering if sending a follow up email after being put on a waitlist would be a good idea?
I was recently put on waitlist at one of my top schools, actually my top school (UNE) which is kind of sad. That being said I’ve heard UNE tends to pull quite a bit from their waitlist as other students start getting acccepted into more affordable programs.
I just wanted to know what do you guys think about these letters.
I just want to thank them for even considered to be placed on this list as I know there’s a lot of applicants and competition and it must not be easy to build their upcoming class. I also want to reteiterate that I am willing to enroll if I get admitted off the waitlist.
Any thoughts?

I doubt it would hurt your chances, but hard to tell if it would sway their opinion. My advice would be to keep it short and to the point. Obviously they know you're interested because you've applied and made the effort to interview, and you have to remember how many essays and applications they are reading.

I've read on here before that applicants have sent the admission's staff a short paragraph and ended up getting off the wait list. Maybe a coincidence, maybe it helped, but I doubt it would hurt your chances at all. Personally, I originally wanted to apply to a program in Virginia, and happened to be in the area so I emailed the admission's rep to see if she had time to meet up and talk about the program. I ended up not liking many aspects of the program, and didn't apply, buuuuut I still wrote a thank you note because she took time out of her schedule to look over my transcripts and show me the facilities, and she emailed me a few weeks later saying how no applicant has ever handwritten her a card before.

I would go for it! Just keep it short and to the point!

I was waitlisted and sent several emails to the admissions director over 3 months and was accepted off the waitlist in June for a program that started in August. I would recommend that you send an initial email stating that you are still very interested and would definitely accept and enroll if they offered you a spot in the program. Do not make mention if you have been admitted / accepted enrollment in another school.
I would also send an email if you have an update to your application (graduation, classes retaken, change to GPA)and let them know if you are sending them an updated school transcript. Keep it short and to the point and always state that you would definitely accept if offered a spot. If I was an admissions director, I would rather offer the spot to a definite "yes" applicant than to an applicant that will keep me waiting while they make a decision, especially if I was desperate to finish the acceptance cycle and finalize the cohort.

Thank you for the advice. I will be sending a brief thank you letter to them stating I will most definelty enroll in their program if I get an offer.
