any thoughts would be appreciated... i scheduled an interview at georgetown last week, but then today i got into Keck. I still haven't bought a plane ticket to DC yet. It's going to cost ~$200. I'm not sure if I should spend the money, when I feel I'd likely go to Keck over Gtown. On the other hand, I could love Georgetown after visiting/interviewing. I'm on a fixed income this year (out of school), so $200 is a lot for me to be spending right now, but I would spend the money if I thought it was worth going. I'm not sure. What do you all think?

who are you kidding...
forget the plane ticket, go to Keck.
I would if I got in there.
Congrats on the acceptance! 🙂

Go to Keck! Congrats on your acceptance. With any luck, I just might join you there.

going to keck would kick @$$... but i'd still check out GTWN

Read posts on GTown, and read about their philosophy. If that's for you, take a look, if not, go to Keck. Regardless, congrats on getting accepted! =)

I would go. $200 is not a lot in the grand scheme of getting into and attending med school. CONGRATS on the Keck acceptance!!!
 😀 🙂 😎 🙂 😀

Oh, and welcome to SDN!! 🙂

Spend the $200, you'll get it back. You don't want a case of the "What if's" for the next 6-8 years. Also, you will choke when you become a doctor and look back at the value of $200.

Go to georgetown. yes, $200 is a lot of money, but you really won't have a good idea about the school unless you visit. stay with a host and give it a shot.

congrats on keck!

I respectfully disagree with most these posts. First, it's more than $200...it's more like $500 when you are looking at hotels, eating out, getting taxis, paying for airport parking, gas money to drive to the airport (if you're like the me and the closest airport is well over 100 miles away)...it all adds up. Second, trust your gut. If you are already are leaning towards Keck over G'town, chances are you're not going to be over enthusiastic about G'town and would get waitlisted at best. Third, Keck is a "better" school if that means anything to you. These schools are really far apart...if you're a CA or west coast resident, do you really want to go all the way to the east coast? of course, if you want a change or live on the east coast, that's different. Finally, I know for me interviewing got to the point where I didn't care about the cost, it just got so stressful and draining. I scheduled too many and got so sick I had to cancel my Columbia interview. Now I'm just so happy to sit at home and not go to any other schools after going to eight interviews in about twelve weeks. ultimately, it's up to you, and really, it isn't the end of the world either way. I don't think it's too big of a deal...trust your instincts. and congrats on Keck!😀

When I visited G-town for my interview, I thought it was especially mediocre. I went because at that particular time, I did not have any acceptances and didn't want to take any unecessary chances. I guess this feeling was all I exuded during my interview because I got waitlisted. I made the mistake of mentioning some of the places I had gone to interview. Apprently it takes a letter of intent to get in off the wait list. I withdrew my application and included a blurb in my letter regarding how I disagreed with their admissions' philosophy. I have never seen a school so full of themself when they have no right to be... Best of luck and congrats on the uSC acceptance.

to the op: tell georgetown to shove the interview invite letter up their behind and ask for full refund of ur amcas and secondary application fees from those bloodsucking, we're mid-tier but we wanna act like top5 school thinking rat bastards.

TeinVI...that was classic.

Were you rejected like I was?

hey rak,
how funny, when i read your thread, I had major deja vu. I also got into Keck last week and I had a georgetown interview scheduled for this week (yesterday actually). I thought about it for about 5 minutes, realized i would never want to live in DC over LA and that pretty much there was nothing that would make me go to Gtown over USC. So i called Gtown and canceled. And I had ALREADY bought a plane ticket (but I now have 190 credit with jetblue for the next year so its not totally gone). For me, it was not just the expense of the trip, it was the drainage factor, as someone else also said.
Congrats on getting in! Maybe we will be classmates! 🙂
