Hi all:
I wonder should I start calling schools to express my interests about them? 2 MS2 students in my lab suggested me to call and make an appointment to speak to the admission of the med school where I am working (which is my favorite school). But I wonder in general how did other people do it? What did you talk about when you came for your appointments (not the interview) with these schools? I already submitted my primary and just try to get whatever chance I have to get ahead. Any experience from anyone will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

What exactly are you trying to gain from that? I highly doubt that a meeting such as that influences your chances. They know you are interested. Thats why you are applying. Thats just my opinion though. I could be off base.

You should probably wait until after you interview there.

this is usually something people do before the application season starts or after they are rejected

not on the cusp of an application season.. wait until January or something

Do not do this.

If you want to get their attention, do well in your classes, MCAT and ECs.

Do those MS2s dislike you, or simply not know what they're talking about?

Declaring yourself to be a special snowflake could only hurt you. It's one thing to call with a specific question, to request an application post-mortem after rejection, or even occasionally to ask advice pre-application of your target school to guide planning as a pre-med. But doing it now, and furthermore requesting a meeting with nothing to discuss, calls your sense of self importance into question.

Think of it this way. If you do call/email the Dean of Admissions, he/she might remember you. But that impression is that you're an extremely anxious or presumptuous person. Anxious because you worry about how your application speaks of you. Presumptuous because you think a phone call or email can change their opinions compared to the system they already have in place.
