hi guys,

im new to this forum and i joind coz i dont know whr to go 4 the advice i need!!! So u guys are my only hope🙂

anyhow, im plannin to apply to opt school for fall 2007... i hav already finished my apps, but im not sure if i shud send them in or not w/ the deadlines nearing... i dont want to waste money sendin them in, if they are not even gonna consider it.... jus some fyi: my gpa is a little below average, im takin the OATs this week, and i hav 1 yr of optometric experience... my schools of interest are SCCO (deadline 3/15), NECO(deadline 3/31), NOVA(3/31), maybe IAUPR (4/1)...

i originally didnt plan on waiting this long, but some things came up in my life and i cudnt get my apps in and/or take the oats earlier.... has anyone been/currently is/know some1 thats been in a similar situation?????

it's really late to be honest..but you might be able to get an interview at NECO but SCCO has a full class now from what I heard...good luck!

I guess it really depends on how desperate you are to get in for 2007. If you're willing to wait untill fall '08 to start you would have a much better chance of getting into a good school. If you really want to start this fall then you should just send in your apps ASAP and hope for the best!

Best of luck

When I was at my PCO interview, one of the tour guides said she sent in her app two days before the deadline and got an interview a few days later. (i think she had stellar grades though)

i guess it doesnt hurt to try..!

#1...SCCO's class is not full for next year, I am giving tours to students this saturday and we have a full day of applicants, they would not have been invited to come if the class was full.

Also, there are a number of people in my class who were not interviewed until April of last year. Some schools do fill up fast, but the dealine is there for a reason, they DO still consider people up to that deadline.

I would apply to them, even if you can get at least one interview, the experience is worth it for the following year, it shows you really want it.

thanx i really appreciate all the thoughtful advice 🙂 Lately, i have been feeling very lost and losing hope, so your feedbacks really mean a lot to me!!!!

but ive decided not to apply to SCCO because from what i read in other forums it seems that my chances of getting in are slim to none (altho it ws my first choice since i live 20 mins away from it)... so my next concern wud be if i get an interview offer from NECO should i consider flying out there or jus wait until next year for SCCO.. im kinda worried about movin out so far coz i hav never lived out on my own... maybe if i get accepted to NECO i can transfer to SCCO later.. 😕

Aside from extenuating circumstances, transfering is damn near impossible. What you should do over the next year is to get yourself together, plan ahead, prepare a killer application, do very well on the OAT and then apply (EARLY) to SCCO. This is your first choice school, so go for it! LOTS of people take a year off so use it wisely...You said you felt "lost", and entering optometry school in a less than stellar state of mind is a bad idea. Use this time to "find yourself" and make yourself into a more competitive applicant. You could easily be the applicant to beat in the 2008 cycle if you put your mind to it.

this is great news for me, I was pretty worried about the class being full, but now I'll just try to stay positive. I'll be there on Saturday 🙂

And I agree, "I Luv" you should just definitely go for it (if you don't mind spending the $) but it will show your interest and determination.

Some schools deadlines have already passed. If it was me I'd just wait the year and get everything in early. That way no worries. You can start appling for 08 by august for most schools. Thats just me though.
