Hey guys,

I'm not sure what would be the best route to take at this point. I'm taking the exam Aug. 5. I have taken a few practice tests from TPR at this point but not yet the AAMC FL. How crucial is it to do that and how different is it? I still have a good bit of content review left.

I don't know if my time would be best used by just focusing on content review or taking the AAMC test right, just because it takes me quite a while to also go over my practice tests. Please offer advice!! 😱

AAMC FL is mandatory IMO. I don't know about TPR, but that Bio section on AAMC was unlike anything I've seen on Kaplan. And not trying to be mean here or anything, but how are you not finished with content review yet when your test is in 5 days?

My advise might not sound supportive but DON'T take it. Saying you still have content review means you're not done. Doesn't matter if you finished 90% or 95% of the content, you're not at a 100%. Plus, you need a good 6 weeks of solid practice. Few practice tests won't cut it, not for the majority at least. Add to that, AAMC material is a MUST DO before taking the test.

My 2 friends scored 510+ without taking it but I would still heavily recommend taking it. I totally agree with the second poster, AAMC FL bio felt so different from TPR bio. AAMC C/P was significantly easier than TPR C/P though. AAMC CARs was on par, maybe slightly easier. AAMC Psych/Soc- felt like a carbon copy of some of the early Course Test Psych/Soc sections.

My friend admittedly didn't finish two chapters of his Kaplan bio book and still got a 127 in the Bio section while scoring 124s on Kaplan tests. His score range on the old MCAT on his April 2015 MCAT was in the 31-33 (with a 126+ in each section, 510-514) range for the old MCAT and a 21-23 on all of his practice tests. He didn't completely understand the scale so he didn't void even though numbers wise, he should have.

My friend who took the MCAT a few years back got a 35 (with 10+ in each section) despite skipping out on the last chapter and a half in TBR Physics I believe. He scored a 35+ on AAMC 10/AAMC 11 and decided he was ready despite the fact he was done with like 95% of his content and not all of it.

Take the AAMC FL! You need to have an idea of how prepared you are for the real thing and nothing is closer than AAMC! For example, you may feel so comfortable with content and take the AAMC and might be scoring way below what you want. I think you should consider postponing, you should only really take the test when you feel confident - confidence is going to play a big role in test day, and if you're learning stuff to the day of your test, it's not going to be a smooth ride! Good luck!
