Hi everyone!

So here's my situation, I have all my main prerequisites taken care of: biochem, bcp, etc. I got a 21AA, 21TS, and 21PAT on my DAT, and I have a 3.5 overall, 3.3 sciGPA at a top 10 research university. I'm planning on applying to about 12-15 schools around the country (I don't have a public in-state school so I'm kind of sol in that dept.)

I know both Midwesterns require anatomy and physiology. Do you think I should take these classes or can I just apply to schools that don't require these classes which are very difficult at my school?

Thanks for your input!

If you have an open schedule and you don't mind taking extra classes I would go ahead and take it. Anatomy and physiology are good classes to take and will probably look good in your transcript if you do well in them. I know that when you go into any dental school you are required to have some kind of background in that field because you will defiantly be learning about the human anatomy in dental school.

I took it and I'm glad I did.

I am taking both and they are just like any other bio class, pure memorization! The best part is they inter-correlate a lot, in my school the Professors are buddies and structure their lessons so the same areas are covered at the same time in both classes.

I was in the same boat! I didn't end up taking A&P because it wasn't apart of my major and I didn't really have room in my schedule. The class would have been VERY useful for D1 year but I also did fine without it, as did everyone else who didn't take it. I applied to about 15 schools that didn't require it and they were all the schools I wanted to go to anyway. Good luck!

I'm in Animal Physiology right now. It is widely considered the most difficult course in my school's biology department. It is not, in any way, straight memorization. The teacher is pretty fantastic and I have learned more in the first 4 weeks than I did in any prior biology class. I love everything about it. If I had the time or space to find and anatomy class I would as well.

If you have the schedule space to take, why not? It can only help you (as long as you do well, which you should be able to having already completed other pre-reqs).

I found A&P to be my favorite undergrad class. Being able to dissect on cadavers was an experience to amazing to describe. Also, our professor was an MD and challenged the class in ways that made me a better critical thinker, not just the cut and dry memorization that some experience. I would highly recommend that you take it OP!

Anatomy is slowly becoming more of a requirement now same like biochem, to maximize the # of schools you are eligible to apply to or to be able to matriculate with the required courses on time, you should definitely take biochem and anatomy, physiology is more recommended
