Hi, I'm going into the last year of my psych degree(I'm in Canada btw)
and am minoring in biology. I'm just figuring out what courses I should take for the upcoming school year. I was thinking of taking human physiology (it's a 3rd year course if that matters). I've heard that it is a difficult course because it's a lot of information. Since my minor is pretty open with what courses I can take I wanted to ask if it would be worth it to take human physiology? I'm willing to work hard, but will be busy next year anyways (with my other classes and I have a lot of extracurriculars). I've spoken to my advisor too and he doesn't seem worried since I have already taken both semesters of biochem and cell bio.

I'm pretty sure that it's the course that I would find the most interesting, but I want to go to med school, so I need to think about my gpa. My friends have said that it's hard, but interesting. Also, the other problem is that the professor that usually teaches each section of the course retired, so we are getting a brand new professor. I'm just really worried about eventually regretting taking the course.

So yeah, I just want some thoughts on how you found your human physiology course. What did you like about it? What did you not like about it? What was your favourite part? What was the hardest part? And whether you would recommend someone else take it.

I took human phys in college and found the experience rewarding. As long as you hit the prereqs I don't think extra biology classes necessarily look great on an app. If there's something else you're interested in taking, go ahead and take it - you'll certainly get plenty of physiology at med school.

Now's the time to explore other academic subjects that interest you. Don't take something that looks like or is a fluff course, though. If you have a minor that you're going for, then take another course in that perhaps. I'd expect a somewhat focused minor in an interesting field like business or communications would both look good and be useful.

I too took physio during undergrad and was glad I did. For some topics, I had a better education in my undergrad class than I did in med school. There's no harm in taking it. You're not going to be an all-star in medical school if you do take it, but if you're interested in the material, you should consider doing so.
