Hi,
I am currently planning out my spring classes and I was not sure if I should take physiology. I'm planning on taking the MCAT in April. I know physiology is on it, but I was self studying physiology over the summer and I did not think it was too bad, and I also wanted to take a really light semester because I wanted to focus all of my time on the MCAT... I also am planning on graduation early and applying during this summer (2016), so should I take it just so its on my transcript (I know med schools like seeing it but I have taken a ton of other biology courses like, anatomy, genetics, cell bio, etc, as I am a biology major!)

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely not necessary to do well on the MCAT. Biochemistry is more important. If you want to get everything done by this summer then take the light semester and devote some time to studying.

If you feel you are ready to apply by next summer then go ahead and do it but just as some personal biased and unsolicited advice, I would not rush to get into the next app cycle. Make sure you have all of your boxes checked and the best app possible before you send it out because it's always more expensive, stressful and time consuming to have to re apply

Agree with Lucca, physiology not necessary. Although personally, two classes I wish I would have taken before the MCAT (and subsequently medical school) would be Genetics and Immunology, since they were by FAR my weakest MCAT subjects.

It's a good idea to take physiology classes if you intend on applying to a school that requires at least one class. From what I know, both UA Phoenix and UA Tucson recommend or require at least one physiology course.

Immunology maybe appeared on two questions on my MCAT (2015 edition btw). I would not recommend anyone take Immuno for MCAT purposes.

Fair enough, maybe not immunology for MCAT purposes, but I still stand by what I said about genetics lol

Ok that makes sense. Im still not commited to applying during the summer. I just want to start med school asap but I get the value in waiting to apply. Thanks for all the replies and good luck if any of yall are applying!

If you self study it, then you should be fine for the MCAT. But I would definitely take it some time before graduating and if you think you can ace it while studying for the MCAT, take it now. If you want to wait until an easier semester, then that is fine too. But it is interesting and it looks good for your app

would help to take either anatomy or physiology for mcat but like most topics, you can easily self study it.
