So my predicament is this, I'm taking the Canadian DAT on November 1st and not really ready for it in the first place but now I've come down with an infection that has made my joints and fingers swell. So I don't know if I should take the test when I'm this uncomfortable and highly allergic.

The problem with the Can DAT is that it's nonrefundable or transferable, so that's $200ish down the drain. If I do take it, then it could be a sort of practice for me for next time. In Canada they don't really care if you've taken it 2 or 3 times, they either look at the most recent or the highest mark.

But I'm not sure how this will look if I want to apply for the American schools if my first DAT attempt is pretty low. I can get a doctor's note right now to say the condition I was in when taking it if asked why.

Any advice would be appreciated.

PS. Can DAT can't be voided after the fact either.

if u're not ready, don't take it.

I say take it, since you've already paid for it, it wont really hurt you and you'll get an idea of what you have in front of you, and you can take the canadian dat again in february. If you do well in february you can use those scores to apply to states schools next year, im pretty sure states schools dont mind if you've written it twice and most of them take your highest score

thats crazy. can you not get a steroid shot or something?

I remember andre agassi used to get steriod shots in his knee before big tennis matches?

Would that work? i dont know im not a doctor. 🙂

wait you dont want to get a steroid shot if you have an infection, right?

I'm not sure if a steriod shot would help, I should ask since the state I'm in I might not even be able to go to the test center.

If you challenge CDN Dat in Nov, you are gonna have to include the scores in AADSAS, and it might factor into your admission to American schools. The schools I applied to haven't asked for my official cdn dat scores yet, so I assume you might be able to fly with low cdn dat.

i say cancel the canadial DAT if u aren't ready, you just aren't. INstead, register for a DAT in the US (cuz it's at your own convenience and it's cheaper (10$ to move or something) ... and then come across the border a day or two before, stay in a nice hotel, and then wake up, take the test and go back home. This way you get a sweetness of a holiday included in it. 😎

lol, the American DAT is offered in Canada. Canadian schools also don't accept the American DAT from Canadian applicants. My advice to the OP is to only write if he/she feels confident; otherwise, just forfeit the money and don't show up. He/she can write it in Feb.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I didn't end up going to the test, hopefully I'll be in better shape for the Feb one
