i'm interested in 0-6 pharmacy schools and i'm trying to pick classes that will make me competitive. i wanted to take AP but i got lazy with world history and failed the first semester. i made it up and got an A and currently have a C for the second semester. even though i can't take any AP classes i can take dual enrollment (DE) with the local community college. is it worth taking dual enrollment even though most likely pharmacy schools won't accept it as a credit? will it make me more competitive? i'm a sophomore in HS right now. here's my schedule for next year:

1. DE college algebra
2. DE pre-cal algebra/trig
3. DE english comp 1st and 2nd semester
4. algebra 2 honors
5. chemistry
6. psych/soc
7. health sciences 1 and 2

i'm also taking american history online in the summer. how badly will the F affect me getting into a 0-6 pharm school even though i made it up? i will definitely stay more focused next year and not let that happen again.

What's your current GPA right now? An F won't look good at all, but it's good you made it up. You're still a bit early, but if I were you, I'd keep up with the DE and keep your grades up. You still have 2 more years to go and it will sure go by fast... Make sure to also volunteer. You need to be a well rounded candidate, just making the grades won't look great. You need to be an all "arounder" b/c you'll be up against still competition. Volunteer in a pharmacy... see if you really like it. You still have time to decide.

😱
ayaya... that's a little low for a sophomore... colleges are going to want your UNweighted GPA. You better work your butt off. Nothing less than B's. Even if it means taking a lighter load next semester. You're going to need to pull your unweighted cumulative GPA to at least a 3.6 and higher. And rock on the SAT 2000+ / ACT 30+.

why are you taking DE college algebra and algebra 2 at the same time?

It should report it next to your weighted... at least my school transcript did. But you can figure it out yourself if you know your schools grade scale.

4.0 A
3.0 B
2.0 C
1.0 D, etc.

My school's was weird it was Honors/IB Weighted:
5.0 A
4.0 B
3.0 C
2.0 D
1.0 F

I attend a community college. I am on a 2+ 3(or 4) year plan (applying next year to schools).

I wish I would have known about 0-6 schools when I was in high school... but oh well.

What schools are you looking into?

these 4 are my top:

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science - Boston Boston, MA
St. Louis College of Pharmacy St. Louis, MO
University of Connecticut Storrs, CT
University of Missouri at Kansas City Kansas City, MO

but i've requested info from a few others so when it comes time to apply i'll probably be applying to 5 or 6 schools. i live in a small town in Florida and i want to try a big city. plus i want to see snow lol. another factor was not having to go for an interview. since these colleges are pretty far away and my family is financially unable to pay for a trip there and back 🙁

I'd stick with MCPHS. Good private program. I don't know much about the others, but another user on here is going to attend STLCOP next fall. Her name is SMK(something). All those places are pretty cold. Are you sure you'll be able to handle the weather? And they're very intensive (someone recently posted a schedule up and they attend MCPHS... a lot a lot a lot of work). Have you looked at other options besides 0-6s? You're really limiting yourself with those four schools.

because algebra 2 is required and DE so it'll prepare me for college/ look good on my transcript
Ok, it just seems a little redundant to me

I would definitely recommend taking any math course for college credit in high school. I took pre-calc and calc I and II for college credit while in high school. Besides looking good on your transcript, I feel it is easier to get it out of the way while in high school. I didn't have to take calc I/II when I was a freshman and it was really nice not having to worry about that particular pre-requisite.

i hope i can handle the cold! lol. i went to wisconsin and ohio a few times when i was between ages 5-8 and i loved the snow, though i know that doesn't compare to living in it for 6 years. i'd just love to give it a try. i did look at 2+4 but i know they are really hard to get into (i know 0-6 are too). my list actually started out with about 13 0-6 schools. i just narrowed it down to ones i think i would like best but i'll still most likely apply to 5 or 6 or maybe 7.

I loved AP Human Geo my teacher rocked.... Good and easy AP class, but worthless credit really.

Well you still have a long time to decide, however if the 0-6 doesn't work out just know there are tonnnnns of other options- 2+ 3, 2+4, 4+3, 4+4.... If you don't get into a 0-6 it isn't the end of the world 😛

ok. thanks. i'll keep that in mind though if i don't get accepted to one i'll still be pretty sad, especially if i do good on SAT/ACT and raise my GPA significantly or if i really have my heart set on one.

I would especially recommend Calc I/II - nothing was better than laughing at my friends who had to suffer through it while I didn't (course I took calc 3 which is a whole new beast altogether).
If you high school offers it, I would also recommend AP Chem. I don't know if the schools you would be applying to would accept AP Chem or BIO in lieu of introductory chem/bio (UB didn't) but AP chem will definitely help you when it comes to 1st year chemistry. While it goes more in depth than AP chem, the principles are still the same. I remember AP chem and general chemistry being very similar in structure and in what they covered.
AP Bio wouldn't hurt but I'd definitely put AP chem as a higher priority. At my school, our introductory biology class was Evolutionary Biology and AP Bio really didn't help you with that. I didn't take AP bio but my friend did and she said it didn't really help. The schools you may be applying to may be different though and AP bio could really help you in introductory biology. My school's was different - people at other schools never had to memorize taxonomy 😱
