Hey everyone,

let me thank you first for all of your advice on this subject. Pre-osteo has always been much more helpful to question that I ask, so thank you 🙂

I know for sure, bottom line I want to be a physician, be it MD or DO. Currently, my cGPA is a little bit low (3.5), and my sGPA is even lower (3.1 :scared:, C in bio and no As really hurt). However, I have some pretty good ECs. Have not taken the MCAT yet, so that is a whole other set of issues. I heard that it is ROUGH, and if I do not break a 30, DO may be the only option. I would be honored if osteopathic school gave me a chance to pursue my dream though.

The problem I am having is deciding to transfer to a different University. Currently, I have been under preforming in the sciences and at my current university. All my university offers is a BS in general Biology. That means all ecology, all plants, and a bit of cell bio thrown in for good measure. If I stay here, I do not believe that I can preform well in Bio, which is really the only way to quickly raise my sGPA while fulfilling my major requirements. The University that I want to transfer to offers the degree that I LOVE, Exercise science.

I know that I can do much better in EX Science than I am currently doing now GPA-wise. I also know that DO schools take EX Science for the sGPA, which will help out a TON. In fact, this could be my only option at this point, because not even all As in the prereques will get me high enough.

But here is the catch: I have a scholarship here that pays for almost everything. I pay 3k a year to go to school (live in my parents basement, smart thing to do). I also have a research position (I think I'll be in a paper!). I am a nurse assistant at a free healthcare clinic for the undeserved and underprivileged (personal statement GOLD). I organize intramural sports teams (tennis). I also tutor for my university and will be an SI instructor next year for Psychology. If I were to go away, I would have to start from scratch and pay 20K for next year, but I would be majoring in something I enjoy and be able to get my sGPA up.

My other option is just stay here, major in something mildy interesting that I can do well in (psychology or com anyone lol?), Ace the MCAT, get into med school, profit, chicks, die happy. Or go to the new University, get a major I love, get a high cGPA and sGPA for a big price tag.

But the bottom line, I may love exercise science, but at the end of the day I want to be a physician.

Please give me your thoughts on this matter, I really appreciate the advice 🙂

honestly i dont think it matters at all what you major in for the long run. I thought exercise science sounded cool but honestly i didnt find it amazing or anything; its really just a branch degree that people use for bigger things typically. Do what you think is right, im glad im i majored in exercise science but it wasnt a huge deal really. I could of majored in something else and been just as happy. The degree itself doesnt do much for you but at least you get a good amount of easy science classes, lol.

well you technically won't be using your bachelors degree in exercise sciences, I would just retake the classes you got a C in, and do some silly classes like the 100 level of nutrition, astronomy, geology, oceanography, etc, as DO schools consider those as "sciences" and will help boost the science gpa🙂

"Other Science" still adds points to SciGPA for DO schools. This is NOT the case for AMCAS or TMDSAS
