Background - I just graduated in May but my undergrad does not do composite/committee letters. I already have one letter from the advisor to a club that I was on the board of ready and sitting in Interfolio and I have a chemistry professor who wanted to wait and write my letter next spring since I am applying to MD and DO schools next cycle.
Now I am doing an informal post-bacc at another school in a different state for GPA enhancement. I was planning on using post-bac professors for my other letters. However, I learned that I can apply to the actual post-bac program rather than just taking classes a la carte like I am right now. If I am accepted into the program (which I believe I would be), I will receive a certificate when I finish 24 credit hours and I'd be eligible to receive advising but most importantly, I would get a composite letter from them.
In order to get that composite letter, I have to get 4 evaluation forms filled out from professors from this post-bacc program. I think I can do that seeing as I believe I can ask the professors from both of my classes this semester and then I'll try to get to know 2 more professors next semester.
Normally it'd be a no-brainer but I have two hesitations -
1. I have to get 3 letters of recommendation in order to apply to the program. I think I could ask my two professors from this semester (I'd ask them toward the end so they can get to know me more). I'm having trouble with the third one, though. I guess if I'm pressed, I would ask the person who wrote me the letter that's already in interfolio. I guess instead of having it say med school, she could change it to post-bacc program so hopefully it wouldn't be a big hassle for her.
2. If I submit a composite letter to med schools, would I still be able to send those other two letters of rec from my undergrad as well? I feel bad having asked them and not being able to use them. I think they'd both be strong letters, too. I know if your school offers a composite letter, you must use it but since I'm not technically in the program yet, I don't have the ability to get one yet.
So basically, does a composite letter look better in this case? Should I apply to the program? By the way there is no deadline for it. They review applications once a month all year long.
