Hi,

I want to apply to a few dream schools but my MCAT score as of now is nowhere close to their average MCAT scores. However, I am taking August 2004 MCAT and definitely plan to do really well. The thing is that the deadline of these schools is OCT 15 and I know MCAT scores come out around that time. I don't want to wait till last minute to apply. Would I be better off applying now than later?

dont focus the drive of your application to just a few dream schools... i would assume your ultimate goal is to get into an MD program, and if thats the case, just apply now.

if you want to retake, go ahead and retake. your app will be delayed though. it all depends on you though. do you have a: 29 (apply now) or a 25 (prob retake)?

Thanks for the input. Actually, I am not just applying to a few dream schools, what I meant was I want to include a few dream schools ( 3 to be specific) in my long list which mostly consist of safetly schools. I mean, I want to give them a shot but I definitely would need to take MCAT before they consider me (which I am taking anyways). So I was saying that if I wait until my Aug MCAT scores are out, then id be applying on the last day. So isn't it better that I apply to those schools now, so that even if they put my app in the bottom, atleast they'd know I applied earlier?

Thanks

As someone who has been through the process and had success, my advice is to get your application in as soon as possible. You may come out with a stellar August MCAT score, but if you wait until October to fill out AMCAS chances are you won't start interviewing until January or February. At most schools applications and admissions are on a rolling basis, which means that the later you interview, the more of a disadvantage you will face in gaining admissions. Good luck. Hopefully you rock the August MCAT.

Get your application in as soon as possible. It can take a long long time for your transcripts to get to AMCAS, get verified, etc. That way, when your scores come in, your application will be complete. Waiting for your application to be verified is a very frustrating process. Also, schools will start sending out secondaries as soon as your application is complete.
