My apologies is this is not the right sub-forum to post this in. My partner is currently scheduled to take Step 1 the day before it goes P/F on the 25th. Do you have any insight or opinions on whether they should take it for a score or P/F based on their situation? They're an IMG, completed residency almost a decade ago in a field that's highly competitive here in the US, practiced abroad, then moved to the US for about half a decade, completed an observational fellowship, worked in a COVID ICU abroad last year, and is second or last author on 5 publications. Predictmystepscore predicts they'll score 242 +/- 2 based on the following data points:
UW SA 1: 247
UW SA 2: 245
NBME 29: 224
They hope to get into an IM residency. For reference, in 2018, the median Step 1 score of non-US IMGs who got accepted to IMG residencies was ~238 with an interquartile range of ~228-248. For those who didn't get matched, the median score was ~221 with an interquartile range of ~211-231.
As I posted about recently on Reddit, it appears to be unclear at this point how accurate Predictmystepscore is. Recent anecdotal reports online of some people scoring 20-30 points below their predicted score recently have us worried that my partner could get stuck with a bad score, whereas a Pass probably would not help, but hopefully it wouldn't hurt either.
My partner is not feeling confident and feel like they will probably get around 230. They completed Uworld once a year ago, but had to take a long break from studying, and on this most recent run through of Uworld, they've only completed 29% of it.
