Hey everyone! I’ll be starting at the University of Florida this fall as a first-year Biochemistry major pursuing a pre-medical track. I’ve been doing research on any possible summer activities for pre-medical students and came upon SHPEP. I’m thinking a lot about applying for the summer 2020 cycle: however, I do have some questions. Hopefully there are SHPEP ambassadors out there who might read this and be able to help.
What are things you can do throughout your first year in college to make you a more competitive applicant? Are some programs more competitive than others? Is it true that priority is given to applicants within the state of the program they are applying to? I am thinking of applying to the Columbia University, University of Florida, and UCLA programs. I’d appreciate any help/advice from anyone who has previously participated in this program or who is also thinking of applying. Thanks!
