There was a patient this morning on the floor where I work who was just freaking out, swearing at everyone, he refused his morning blood draw and CXR, etc. Somewhere in the midst of his stringing of incoherent yells and insults he mentioned that he was really hungry, so his nurse called the kitchen and asked for an extra side of bacon.... After he got his breakfast the guy couldn't stop talking about how great the bacon was and totally calmed down. He let the phlebotomist draw his blood, got his CXR and was even polite about it! Later this evening he was about to leave AMA, but the nurse convinced him to stay until breakfast tomorrow. Lol.

It certainly made that nurses day easier. Giving the guy a side of bacon isn't exactly caving to his every whim, and what are the alternatives? If he leaves AMA he'll just end up back in the ED in worse shape and be admitted for a longer amount of time, or he gets zombified via psych meds... Bacon's not so bad.

continued thought on this leads me to believe you should not use regular salt (sodium) saline, but rather bacon salt saline.
