Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm going to have almost 2 days to do some sightseeing in Philly before I take the PE & I'd like to use my time well. I was obviously going to make it to Independence Hall/Liberty Bell & am planning on going to the Mutter Museum, but I was wondering what else should be on my list.

🙂

Try the Rodin museum for some sculpture. it is awesome but small so that you don't feel overwhelmed. they also have nice gardens in philly but i can't recall their names.

There are a ton of things to do in Philadelphia:

Philly Cheesesteak 😀 I can recommend the usual places if you'd like.

Fairmount Park/Art Museum area is nice (museum is free on Sundays I thought) esp because there are some gardens and boathouse row is right off the Schuylkill River. They have these long paths that run next to the river for a lazy walk. I really like that area.

For a nice lunch - Reading Terminal Market area has tons of restaurants etc. (12th & Arch Streets)

You can also walk down by the Delaware River (Penn's Landing) and SOUTH STREET is a must for the Eclectic person 🙂 Pretty much from maybe 7th down to the Delaware there are shops/restaurants galore with pretty much everything you'd want or need. I think you'd like south street.

Lemme think of some more or if you have any ideas of "what type of things" you are looking for let me know!

Dr Mom,

We can not afford for anything to happen to you. May I suggest a gun shop. Be safe and grace Independence Hall for me.

 I'll be in good hands and with other students.

Hey, what can we do in the evenings. Looks like all of the historical/museum stuff closes at 5, but we have 3 evenings to kill. 😀

Theres plenty of great things to do in Philly.

Drop me an email and I can give you more specifics.

Here are a few suggestions, some already mentioned:

1. Mutter Museum
2. Art Museum (Sunday morning)
3. Bars/Restaurants/Clubs

I can give you a list of some great BYOB restaurants that are off the beaten path (but in nice neighborhoods).

I geuss it all depends on what you and your crew are up for!

You can hang out with cool PCOM students =)

For food, I would recommend
Morimoto
723 Chestnut Street, Phila (center city) (215) 413-9070
A little pricy but it's the restaurant of Iron Chef Morimoto (aka Iron Chef Japanese)
Another nice place for japanese food is AOI
Aoi Japanese Restaurant
1210 Walnut St, Phila (center city) (215) 985-1838

I also like Zesty's which is located in the Manayunk section of Philly
4382 Main Street, Phila. (215) 483-6226

If you want a few places to let loose and chill/relax
Brownies
3801 Chestnut Street, Phila. 215-222-1234
The Bayou
4245 Main Street, Phila. 215.482.2560
Medusa Lounge
27 South 21st Street, Phila 215-557-1981

For a fun surprise, try The Smoked Joint: A Barbecue Experience
1420 Locust St. Phila. 215-732-7500

If you want something to do (that doesn't cost any money and can kill a lot of time), just walk up and down the streets in downtown Phila and look up. The architecture up there is just beautiful - a lot of old gothic-style buildings. There are also a lot of neat shops on some of those streets.

Downsides include having to find somewhere to park and panhandlers.

Where are you planning to stay?
Are you renting a car?
It is easy to end up in a bad part of town. If you get lost just in the distance and head for center city. Check out Penn's Landing and Old City. You must go to either Pat's or Gino's for a cheesesteak with wizz.

On the topic of malls. My favorite is Horton Plaza in San Diego.
yeah that's too far out. More to do in philly. Some GREAT martini bars 😍

I miss philly. Restaurant week is this week in philly. They were always good times. $30 to eat at the swankiest places in philly.

I know it's kind of far, but the mall is one of the places I absolutely made sure to go to because I'm such an avid shopper. 😀

(of course, my bank account took a hit afterwards)

I took my PE during the time of a "snowstorm" in Philly (snowstorm = 3 inches of snow to Philly drivers), so I didn't feel like doing much sightseeing. After the PE I went to a movie theater in Conshohocken and watched a movie, then the next morning drove home and stopped off at the mall. Definitely worth stopping. I was heading that direction on the PA turnpike anyway, so why not? 🙂

The Sat & Sun nights we're staying near the COMLEX PE testing center. Monday night we'll be more in downtown. We're not renting a car.

I appreciate everyone's input tremendously. 🙂

Pat's cheesesteaks are the ones to get with wizz. If you are afraid of the wizz...and you shouldn't be it's awesome. Go with Geno's for the provalone or whatever.

I would also recommend a Rita's gelati. Slush with custard. It's nice!

Have fun.

Testing center isn't that far from center city. Take a cab. Only a few bucks and split it between all of you.

Ummmm.....speaking of which, can we all say "lets go to the Continental!!"

Damn, I miss that place. DrMom, if you guys like martinis, you MUST all go to the Continental @ 2nd and Market. And if you go, have a Buzz Aldrin and a Big O for me!

DAMN I miss Philly. What the hell am I doing in Tulsa again? LOL

You can get provolone or american cheese at Pat's - I'm sure of it. Just be quick about ordering; they can be a little rough there!

Actually, instead, go to South Street and eat at Jim's Steaks. Then go to Fat Tuesday and have a few drinks.....

BTW, if you like Asian cuisine, check out Chinatown. It's not the best chinatown in the world, but you can get some damn good food there none-the-less. I highly recommend Penang, which is a Malaysian restaurant. It's on Arch st. I believe. If you go, you MUST have mango chicken. F*ckin awesome!!

Did I mention that I miss Philly??? 😀

 I SECOND that! 🙂

I like the south street recommendation for barhopping. Jim's and Fat Tuesday's sounds DELIC right now.

You could hop on down to safe West Virginia!!

Forget Pats and Genos. If you want a really great steak you need to go to Delassandros.

Locals dont go to Pat and Genos

Dr. Mom,
If you want to go to Center City for the evening from Conshohocken and aren't renting a car, you could also take the R6 train ($4.50) to either Suburban Station or 30th St. Station. The train station is literally across the street and down a block from the Residence Inn Marriott hotel (you can see it from the corner by the testing site), and the R6 train leaves at 54 minutes past, on the hour and runs until 11:45 at night; it takes about 40 minutes. You would have to contact SEPTA to find out how to get to South Street or Walnut Street (some great restaurants/shopping around 15 and Walnut) from the train station, although it's not that far and you could take a taxi.
The huge King of Prussia mall is about a $15 taxi ride from the testing center area. It's so much fun, though!
Have a good time, just my 2 cents!]
