Signing bonus

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Any word on whether HPSP-ers starting school in 2010 will be given a signing bonus like the last two years? Or is it still up in the air?

That all depends on the recruiting numbers and no one can predict how that will turn out.

Just a reminder. The bonus should not sway your decision one way or another. 20k really is not that much money in the long run no matter how you slice it, and it definitely is not enough to change you from not wanting to serve in the military to serving in the military.

Have the recruiting numbers been going up? I was under the impression that over the last few years none of the services had met their recruiting goals?

Before going ASR program in ARNG, I was talking to an AF REcruiter for HPSP. I talked to him the toehr day just to close the loop on our past business, etc. He said they were over budget fr recruiting. Guess with the economy, business is booming for milmed. Then again, who knows id he really knows this or just is assuming.

Thank you for the reminder, this is very true.

As for myself the signing bonus is not a part of my decision making process, that is already done 🙂 Just wondering cause I had not heard one way or the other.

Is there a typical date that we could expect to know by? Or is it all just play it by ear?

I am in the process right now of Navy HPSP approval and as of now there is still a 20K sign on bonus. The navy has also authorized an overship for HPSP recruiting as they are not yet at their recruiting goal.

With regard to recruiting numbers, I know that the Army has met it quota for the last couple of years. There are lots of reasons for this, like things cooling in Iraq, the bad economy, and yes, the sign on bonus.

If it ain't broke, why fix it? I can't imagine that they would pull out the bonus now. They only introduced a few years ago, and it's had good effects. But what do I know😕

An authorization for overship is not because they have not met goal. You only go over if you have met goal. (Which I believe they have, or at least have the number of applicants to assure that goal is met.)

If the application numbers continue as they have this year, I would expect the Navy to get choosier and keep the bonus. (which is a good thing.)
