Silent Rejections

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard that UC Davis does it too but I'm not quite sure.

There's a special place in hell for schools that silently reject.

Just because a school notifies some people of rejections doesn't mean they'll notify everyone.. Meaning, just because Davis told you guys that you were rejected does not mean that some people won't get a silent rejection.

Edit: As an example, people who were complete at WashU sometime in September have received rejections. I've been complete since July and haven't heard a peep. I'm obviously rejected (stats way too low), but I doubt they'll tell me anything.

Good point. And I'm fairly certain Davis hasn't rejected anyone post-secondary yet. I think last year the first post-secondary rejections went out some time around March.

Considering how much schools charge for their secondaries, I think the least they could do is to notify everyone regarding their decisions. If I am paying $100 to apply to a school, I deserve to know the outcome of my application.

You will. Just maybe not until June 2013.

How does schools selectively send rejections and why do they do that?

Don't forget the $34 for the primary and the time lost doing secondaries.

I was wondering about silent rejections too. I did secondaries for 13 schools and I have 4 interviews but none of the schools have said no.

What's the latest that interview invites usually come in?

So far I have only UCD on here, are silent rejectors very common or is it only a few schools?

What about UC Irvine because I completed in September and seems like I was skipped through. I always don't understand that why some school do delay decision and don't put you on hold pre-interview if they donlt plan to interview you right now.

It is so incredibly disrespectful, I seriously have a problem with schools that silent reject. An applicant gives their time and their money to make a application to your school, and you don't have the professionalism or decency to give them a response? Incredibly lazy and disrespectful.

Heck, even the cost of primaries is enough to make this true IMO! The least you could do is send an email so people aren't left hanging. I've received a silent rejection from Drexel. My SO got a secondary and I didn't. We have very similar apps (his GPA is 1.3 pts higher than mine, my MCAT is 1 point higher than his) and submitted our applications at the same time. I tried calling, left messages, etc just to check on the status of my application. No reply, no rejection letter/email, nadda. 🙁

You should probably call the Drexel admissions office again. Drexel sends secondaries to every applicant, so you definitely haven't been silently rejected pre-secondary.

The order in which they send secondaries does seem to be somewhat random, though. But I guess that's to be expected from a school that receives more than ten thousand applications.

If a school silent rejects me I wouldn't want to go to that school anyway since they are so lazy and disrespectful despite the fee I payed them. So it works out anyway 😛

My sentiments exactly.

Other schools I'm pretty sure have silently rejected me (complete for 3.5 months- no news):

1.) Jefferson- "decision pending" - for almost 4 months- what?

2.) Wake Forest

3.) Albert Einstein

4.) EVMS - this school didn't even bother to send me a rejection letter last year

This is my exact situation at 10 schools and i have been complete at most since july. Heres to hoping for some interview invites in the late fall/early winter.

I think that schools that dont send decisions until after their interview season are just as bad as silent rejections. You stopped interviewing in February and really didnt know that I wasnt getting an interview until April? Seriously?

i ended up hearing from every single school eventually at the end of last cycle, but here's the schools that contacted me later than the end of May:

Rosalind Franklin
Drexel
Rush
Loyola

I am actually on pre-interview hold with Drexel, were you in pre-interview hold too?

I'm still new to this. I understand what a silent rejection is… (no response). BUT, how do you actually receive a silent rejection?

Hurricane Katt, post #22, did Drexel actually send you something?

You know cuz she put up a new fb status so you KNOW she saw that message in the inbox! Haha

It's not that you receive it, you assume it. Like if a school usually takes 1 month to get back to applicants and you have heard nothing 5 months after completion, then it might be a silent rejection.

Wow.... I am so glad you told me that. Thank you!

No, but I submitted primaries several months ago. I have received secondaries from all of the other schools I applied to. My SO who submitted at the same time received his secondary months ago...

Thats weird because Drexel send me a secondary the day my app got vertified.
