Just wanted to know why I am getting silent treatment? I have a 3.66 cGPA, 3.72 sGPA with a 31 balanced MCAT. Spent two years in Venezuela as a missionary so I speak fluent Spanish. Worked in an ER as an EMT for four years. Lots of volunteer work through my church. I was a collegiate All-American water polo player. I also worked on an ambulance for awhile.

Most of my secondaries have been in for well over a month (close to two months) and I have only 1 interview and 1 rejection. I sent in 14 secondaries to middle and lower tier schools. Can anyone help?

average cGPA. Good sGPA ( i think at least)....31 MCAT is a little bit on the lower side for more competitive programs. I was told last year that many schools cut-off below a 32 (but that is definitely not always the case)

Fluency in spanish should certainly help as well as your abroad program. All-American water polo player sounds good too. You obviously DID stuff with your life.

How are your letters of recommendation? Did you know your professors/letter writers well?

When did you submit your primary? When was it complete? Some schools may take up to 8 weeks to get back to you......I would be patient. I think you have a strong resume minus no research (not sure where you would really fit time in for that anyway lol)

I think my letters are good. I applied to mostly mid tier and lower tier schools so I thought a 31 would be about their median. I guess I just have to wait it out a little long but I am a little concerned.

mid to lower tier i think you would be ok......

what are your safeties? or rather, what do you perceive (since who really knows in this process what a safety school is) your safety schools are on your list?

also, what were the dates you submitted your primary app? app completed/verified?

i think you'll be fine. just wait it out. you can always call a school and ask how long it usually takes to hear back after submitting and completing your secondary.....and you can even do it anonymously if you'd like.

you have average stats for most of those schools so you will just have to wait it until they start getting to the end on the cycle. Your interview is going to be huge in whether you get in or not.

Your best shot will be your instate schools. What is your state?

I agree that your application looks very nice. Unfortunately, being complete at the end of September is late-ish. I think you could well get more invitations once your application works it's way up through the pile. But that may not be until next semester. Always plan for the worst-case scenario. If you have to reapply next June (and be sure it IS June), be sure you have improved your application in some way. Most important is to continue with clinical exposure in some way.

Thanks for all the responses. I submitted my primary the beginning of Sept. and it verified towards the end of Sept. Most of my secondaries were in before Oct 15. I realize that this is late. By the way unfortunately I am a California resident. I submitted secondaries to:
New York Medical College
Georgetown
Drexel
SLU
USC
Loma Linda
UCR/UCLA Haider
Medical College of Wisconsin
UCSD
Rosalind Franklin
Tufts
I also submitted secondaries to 3 DO schools. But those have only been complete for about a week or so (aacomas was very slow). Thanks again for all your help.

It is still too early to hear from your schools. At the peak period – and this is it – Georgetown takes at least 10 weeks to review your application. So expect to hear from them late December to early January. Tufts is taking at least two months to turn around applications. Drexel gets tons of applications so you are looking at similar wait period. You scores are good. I predict that you will get at least one interview.

My advice: Chill! Relax and just keep waiting. Worst case scenario, you will have to reapply – and then you can send in your apps early.

Well there's your problem right there. Late app + CA residency + not applying broadly enough. Why didn't you apply to all the UC schools? And why RFU but not Rush or Loyola? Or NYMC but not Albany? Not trying to criticize you, but just trying to understand your reasoning for applying to certain schools but not others, because your list doesn't make sense to me. Your "safety" schools like Drexel may not be all that safe either since they get ~10k+ apps a year. I would just sit tight for now. You'll likely hear back from the DO programs soon since your stats are quite competitive there, but the allo schools are more of a crapshoot.

Thanks for the input. I guess I should have done a little more research into the schools before applying and will do so if I have to apply next cycle. I didn't apply to the other UC schools because I didn't think I would be very competitive. I have recently received two invites from the 3 DO schools I applied to, but still nothing from the MD side.

UCSD, in my opinion, is one of the more selective UC schools. Their screening process is pretty stringent. UCI and UCDavis are less so. If you do have to apply next cycle, cast a wider net. I'd include all the UC schools, whether or not you deem yourself competitive, since they're in-state. But congrats on your DO and MD interviews. Rock those and you may not have to worry about next year at all.

UCSD and UCSF are top institutions...-.-

Here is what I see wrong with your list of schools:

NYMC, Drexel, & Georgetown all recieve a ton of applicants and you should have also added GWU, Temple, & Jefferson.

Loma Linda has religious requirements

UCLA, UCSD, & UCSF are some of the top schools in the country and THE top schools in CA. You should have added UC Irvine & UC DAVIS where you would have had a better chance with your stats.

Rosalind Franklin: you should have also added RUSH & Loyola

USC, MCW, SLU are good choices.

Tufts is a reach but that's ok too if you really want to go there.
