Hello!

On SDN I have spotted a few backpack questions on this forum, and it reminded me of something I have been thinking about. My classes tend to be spread out during the day, and I have been going to the library to study with friends after classes), so I usually bring the books that I plan on using for those sessions. However, my dorm is not that close to the main campus (where the classes and the library are), so I am usually hulking around a few pounds of books plus a rather weighty laptop regularly. I know that I could study back at my dorm and not have to bring the books in the first place, but I find it more helpful to study in other areas (less distraction).

Yes, it's a silly question, but has anyone here had a similar situation, and how was it dealt with? Suggestions are appreciated! 🙂

Your library will often have copies of the books you need. Or get them electronically.

I had the same problem. I just devoted entire study sessions to one class/book.

At most places, professors put copies of the textbook on reserve at the library.

Couldn't figure out how to post just the pic from my phone but...

edit: Fixed

a DO point of view 😉.

Use the books on reserve. Convert a cheap copy of the book you found to PDF.
Is this because all DOs go into primary care and don't make much money so budgeting is an issue?

I go through backpacks much like most people go through other items. They are constantly ripping and falling apart from too much weight. I'm a senior and I am on my 3rd backpack for undergraduate (I currently have a north face that is looking promising). I could have packed lighter, but usually what I took was what I needed. Ah well!

Do you even lift? (not srs)

I guess you can try getting used to it. It'll be heavy at first, but it'll get better eventually. (Srs)

I was going to talk about sidebending, rotational and load bearing components on the spine, obviously.

What about the rest of the body? Focusing on the spine doesn't sound very holistic. :naughty:

I knew I should have never posted.

Back to the OP, I'd recommend using the library book service or see if you can access the book from your library's website.

In the future consider getting the PDF version of the books.

If you work in a lab/on campus see if you can stash your stuff somewhere. We did it all the time.

Some libraries even have rental lockers. Worth looking in to at least.

If you are decently tech savvy you can get e-reader versions and convert them as well.

You can also get friendly with the librarians and ask them to hold your books behind the desk. I have friends (primarily females since we had mostly male librarians) who did this in undergrad.

The naughty librarian thing musta been pretty awkward at your school.

One of them was/is also a bouncer at an undergrad bar

Well crap... just used what would otherwise be the most pertinent response to this 😕

That is an interesting combo, though. Most of the bouncers at bars near my school are legally required to wear velcro shoes due to opportunities for self harm while attempting to tie laces (not srs... but still)

Lol, we went to the same school. I knew quite a few of those male librarians and they were all gay. They definitely loved the favors you performed on them to reserve spots for your lady friends. :luck:

You really are a lady's best companion. 🙂

Not sure if you're trying to insult me, but if you are, implying someone is a homosexual to insult them is not cool.

Hehe, no, I don't lift. However, I am getting used to actually wearing this load on my back. Strangely enough, the main problem I have comes from trying to lift it up from the ground!
