Benzene plus H2/Pd --> ?????

Would it be cyclohexane or benzene? I thought there was no reaction but someone told me today it was cyclohexane.

Edit: Oops, wrong section. Should be in the DAT section. Can someone move it?

well technically

if you hydrogenate one of the double bonds in benzene you'll get C6H8...to get cyclohexane you would need to react it with 3 H2..can anyone justify this, because i'm not 100% positive..

because with hydrogenation i always thought that it only reacts with 1 double bond at a time?? is this true?

As far as I remember, that reaction won't proceed unless you have 500K temperature and 10 atm pressure. So the answer should be benzene (No Reaction!).

That's what I thought. My tutor said I was wrong...

If you use a stronger catalyst, like rhodium, I think it'll work at room temp.
