In case you want to have worse hours and more liability.

Academia is so out of touch from reality. Let's get a position that is not available most places, and when available, most people don't wanna do it, and let's create a Board for it, with the clear goal of creating a fellowship in the future.

So massively useless.

There are emergency rooms everywhere and patients seeking help for mental health crises everywhere. If there are interested EM docs who want to gain further knowledge in this area and find this a helpful way of doing so, then why not. There are already emergency psychiatry fellowships (not many takers), I highly doubt many EM physicians would want to do a fellowship in that. They are claiming the practice pathway for this will be open indefinitely. I think they know there isn't enough interest to create this into a board certification which is why they have gone for this focused practice designation instead.

Maybe useless to you (or me) but there was enough interest from some quarters for this to get going.

I do not, at all, see the value in this for psychiatrists. This skill set should be absolutely core for a general psychiatrist. I could see the value in a hospital system paying for some of their ED MDs to do this, but it'd be quite small in both value and interest. I guess it is for pediatricians who want to do something in addition to seeing kids?

Don't need a fellowship if you are an ARNP or PA-C. Ready to rumble from day 1.
But hey, AI is coming for all our jerbs in next few years anyways.

*For those who don't know Star Trek, or specifically the series called Voyager, that is the ships holographic doctor (AI).

After all this effort, don't you want to go back to setting where you might have to evaluate anal wink?
