Is it a good idea to be taking microbiology at the same time as general biology?
I've heard mixed opinions on this and I'm just trying to figure out my schedule for the next semester..... so what do you guys think?

I don't see a problem with it. Neither on was very hard IMO so I don't think it'll make your work load unbearable. Also, you don't really need anything from general bio to understand micro.

I think it would vary from school to school. Ask people at your school, esp. your advisor.

You might even have a week or so of overlap when the Gen Bio course covers basic Micro info 🙂

do not worry. have confidence in your abilities! 😀

Both classes aren't too bad. Should be fine..

Just having both labs might be annoying time wise, especially if you are taking a chem class/lab also as you will have three 4+ hour lab sections a week. If it is just those two, however, go for it.

No problems taking both... however, isn't general bio a prereq for microbiology?

I thought that bio I & II were pre-req's for micro also. However there isn't a lot of overlap...micro is a different type of class (material-wise) that covers bacteria, fungi, and viruses more than anything else.

Even though micro is a pre-req for immuno (at my school), I took them concurrently and had no problems.

Not at all. Anything you would need from gen bio can be wikipedia'd and easily understood.
