Since when??? Please Read and answer!

Just browsing available dental positions within my state of North Carolina and came across this position announcement, my question is, since when and how can a RN direct the work of a dentist? The announcement (below) pretty much implies the nurse is the dentist's supervisor. I feel some type of way about this. Any thoughts?

About the Position
Performs intermediate advanced human support work performing dentistry services, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor. Continuous oversight is exercised over Dental Assistant.

Job Duties

• Examines patients, determines dental needs and treatment plans.
• Provides a full range of professional dental services including diagnosis, prevention, restoration, surgery and endodontic services.
• Conducts screening programs.
• Supervises the operation of the dental clinic.
• Prepares charts and records.
• Cleans, sterilizes and maintains equipment.
• Ensures adequate and appropriate supplies are available.
• Promotes dental health awareness through public relations and educational programs.
• Serves as consultant in dentistry in the department and community.
• Operates the mobile clinic vehicle.

Position Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the practice of dentistry; ability to carry out successful dental procedures; ability to operate a dental office in a public health setting; ability to plan and carry out educational programs in the field; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, co-workers and the general public.

Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
PhD in Doctor of Dental Surgery, or related field and moderate experience in dentistry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

It looks like it’s a federally operated clinic. On the military side, it’s not that uncommon to have a commanding officer of a hospital be a dentist, so not a real doctor leading a lot of real doctors. Obviously, no one is dictating your treatment. It’s all just a matter of who is responsible for managing the overall operations of the staff and facility.

It’s very common for RN to run a health center or at least in charge of a department under the health center.
What people might need to be aware of are those non-healthcare background supervisors. The one I had before once asked this question: why do you guys order so many boxes of gloves?
