I was wondering if there are any single mom's applying for match this year? I'm applying to programs away from my family and I'm wondering if anyone else is doing this and how they plan to handle it?

Yes, I am also a single mother in the match, but I just have faith that everything will work out.

I'm not so much worried about actually matching somewhere (I'm going into peds). I'm more worried about how I'll take care of my 11 year old son when call is q4 for the first year. Are you thinking about hiring someone to help you with your child or will you have family around to help?

Are you going in to surgery?

Take a very careful look at the programs benefits packages before you rank them - many places offer free daycare, medical care, and have other family care services - again, FREE OF CHARGE. You may need to call the program's benefits office to get a definitive answer. Think - free daycare can save you $200/week on expenses...

Having faith that everything works out, means that I plan to find a nanny to assist be when I have call nights or need assistance with other things like cooking.

Once I match then I will contact some nanny or sitter companies if needed. Always do background checks.
