Ok basically I'm a third year biomedical engineering major at a state school. I AP'd out of biology so I didn't have to take that(and I haven't). I also have yet to take orgo, and I don't have to in order to graduate from my current program.

Now, my GPA(cumulative and science) is a 2.9 with a steep upward trend, nevertheless, it looks like I'm going to need to do a post-bacc/SMP. I've got a stellar list of EC's headlined by a spot on the board of directors for a local first aid squad(=> I volunteer about 20 hours/week).

So, my questions are plentiful but basically I'm wondering if SMP's and, more importantly, med schools recognize AP biology credit. I've heard that it depends on the school, does anyone know about the UC's and other schools in Cali? I've taken upper level biology classes(neuro, cell bio) so I can't go back and take bio 101/102 at my current school. Also, should I take orgo before I graduate? I'm thinking that if my AP bio credit isn't recognized by SMP's/med schools then I'll have to take that at some post-bacc program, correct? Along with this, if I end up doing a post-bacc somewhere to complete bio 101/102 then should I just do orgo there as well?

I guess my main problem is that I'm stuck in between, I don't have all the pre-req's so I can't do an SMP but I'm not missing all of the pre-req's so I don't fit into a traditional post-bacc.

I'm thinking about going to SFSU for a year to take bio and orgo(and get in-state status)...does this sound like a viable plan? Ideally, I'd like to work during the day, hopefully as a teacher.

Can anyone offer any insight for me? I've read through countless websites of SMP's and post-bacc's and I'm having a hard time finding a suitable situation for me.

I know this was unecessarily long, I tried to make it easy to understand. Thanks for your help!
