Siu curriculum

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is a ton of preclinical sim lab stuff. Almost all 2nd year is spent prepping on manikins. 1st year is now a little less hands on as they have recently started taking Part 1 Boards after the 1st year.

As for actual patient stuff, there are some Community events that are done where cleanings and sealants are done (for example: at the local hygiene program's school).

The most important thing is does the 1st 2 years prepare you for your last 2 years of clinic and dealing with patients, and I think the SIU program did a wonderful job of preparing for it.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask anything else about the program!

Thank you for the response, it was exactly what I was looking for. I have a few more questions. First, since the first year is a little less hands on since they are trying to prepare the students for boards (which is nice because they get it out of the way asap), how many days a week will the D1 students spend in the preclinical lab sim? Also, how many days will the D2 students spend in the lab? Lastly, in what format would you say the teaching is (i.e. PBL)?
Thanks again!
