SIU interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've been trying to check up on them and UIC cuz I've heard nothing back from them either, but I had an August 20th mailing date for my AADSAS.

Looks like on PreDents.com they've interviewed a couple of people so I'm guessing they started just recently with interviews, like just this month.

Maybe we will hear something in the next week or two. :xf: Are you an Illinois resident too?

I think SIU/SDM just began inviting for interviews last Thursday. They're being conducted two days a week on Mondays and Tuesdays, as far as I could tell from the choice of dates. Hopefully they're not through sending invites. :luck:

From what I can tell in their email, SIU is doing only 2 days a month. I was given 2 dates in mid-October and 2 dates in mid-November to choose from. That's it. But the interviews are only 30 minutes and they go from 8-3 I think, so like 15 interviewees per day? Making it 60 interviewees pre-Dec 1?

60 interviewees only? Hmm, that's kinda worrying. 🙁 I know SIU is pretty selective...I wonder if they're done handing out pre-Dec interviews then if we haven't heard from them by now.

What about your interview date selections for UIC, redchesus? Can you tell what sort of timeline they have for interviews? Congrats on interviews to both those schools, btw.

EDIT: Oops, before I look like a stalker, the only reason I know you had an interview at UIC too is cuz I've been obsessively check the PreDents pages for UIC and SIU and saw your name under them for interviewed. 😛

Well, I think they're kinda late getting things started rolling. I bet there will be many post-Dec interviews this year.

As for UIC, I believe they do every Tuesdays and Thursdays. And I don't think they call people very far in advance (I only had like a week's notice), so you still have time to get a call from them. Judging from my group, I think there are 10 interviewees per day at UIC.

hey guys so i saw some interviewers on campus today and had class with our director of admissions today and chatted him up so heres what i know

usually they start interviews in late november right before thanksgiving but they are trying it earlier this year but they do them lots of times so if theres only 60 scheduled dont worry lots of people choose different schools (some even at the last minute because one kid got in a week before class started and ive even heard of someone getting in the day after orientation started)

sooooo my guess is theyll do a few soon and probably more in late november... i think ive heard of some people having them in december january and a few in the spring..... but basically from what i understand they send out a wave of acceptances and when people committ or dont they move on with more interviews/admissions

anyway if you want my advice on the subject just keep your heads up and dont stress too much over it if youre waiting because it is a really long process...and when the time comes just relax and be yourself!! (cause the faculty is really nice and know how tough it is to interview haha)

Just had my interview today there, can't tell the specifics but I got grilled 😳 but I think other people did too, but that's besides the point.

What I got from chatting people up: They're actually early this year (I was surprised!) and usually they wait til November to interview. They don't fill most their class up on Dec 1. There will be Dec and Jan interviews (the adcom decide whatever days work best so it could be any time of the month I guess). Apparently they also have a tendency to call people not very far in advance of the school year. I think a staff member said they called someone 8 hours before the semester started in recent years. Nuts!

thanks for the info, chesus.

I hope you enjoyed your time in So.Ill 😉

I forgot to mention that there were 2 interviewees per time slot so it's definitely more than 60 (originally I had assumed only 1 per time slot)

Since November is their main month for pre-Dec interviews, I could see them having 3 interviewees per time slot even, who knows.

last year mine was in november and there were three people per slot with me and six per tour group and a bunch of people waiting to get in when we left

I have a question,

Having applied really late (oct/19), with DAT scores of AA:21, PA:21, SA: 21, and a GPA of 3.4, do I have any chances with SIU?

Interview Nov. 23 at 10am

Notified via email last week and was offered Nov. 22 or 23

They told me that I could have pretty much any time I wanted on those days, making it sound like they had plenty of openings still

Best of luck

Awesome, congrats on the interview! Can I ask when you submitted/had all of your AADSAS complete?

My app was mailed on 7/30 and complete like 8/16. Had all my supplemental info in to SIU by 9/1. Oh, and they changed my status on AADSAS to interview offered.

@FXTTH
Hi! I have an interview at SIU on the same date and time as you! See you there!

Anyone hear anything yet today? My status changed from "invited for interview" to "received/application complete" yesterday 11/30

Same here! The nerves are killing me. :scared:

I read in another thread (the one that listed all the schools and how you'd hear back from them) that SIU extends its first offers through a phone call in the first few days of December. So keep your phone nearby I guess? Hope we all hear good news! :xf:

I haven't gotten the call yet but my AADSAS changed to Offer Made this morning

Nice! Though I'm not gonna pretend I'm not jealous, lol. 😉

Hmmm welllll, I can only hope that maybe they're taking a little longer on decisions for the late November interviewees or that an acceptance pops up for me later down the road, like next month...otherwise I'll just hafta brace myself for a rejection. 🙁

Congrats to all those who have gotten acceptances! Hope you guys pick SIU. It is really laid back here and everyone is helpful. For those who haven't heard anything yet don't worry. Its a really long process and there is still a lot of time.

Well, they still haven't called me yet, but I'm giving up my seat at SIU so good luck to you, bloop!

Thanks redchesus 🙂 That's too bad, SIU looks like an awesome school, but you have a lot of options--clearly cuz of your awesome stats and equally awesome interviewing skills. Congrats on all the acceptances, you'll hafta tell us which one you pick.

Predents says you are accepted at SIU...

Lol read my earlier comment, I'm going off of my AADSAS status which says Offer Made. Could be a mistake on part of AADSAS, but either way I got into some other schools so I won't be attending SIU (Alton just isn't a right match for me, despite SIU being a pretty good school).

SIU usually takes awhile after acceptance to make the phone call. You will recieve an acceptance packet in the mail. You can also call just to make sure, but you are definitely in. Goodluck to wherever you choose to go. Alton really isn't bad. I actually enjoy it. Not too far from STL and we have some nice dive bars. Plus not too many distractions.

hey did any of you receive a phone call from Dr. Thomas with an official Invite after your email interview invite?

I was accepted and never received a phone call. Maybe things have changed since past years? I called on the 1st of December, just to make sure my AADSAS wasn't lying to me, and the receptionist said they don't call you. So who knows.
