If I don't respond to an open house invitation (too expensive to fly), does it decrease your chances of getting an interview? I'm thinking it shows a lack of interest...Calling the school probably wouldn't help. They would probably just give me a pre-programmed response like, "other factors come into our consideration of a candidate: community service, experience in dentistry, motivation toward dentistry, letters of recommendation, applicant essay, credit hours/course load and competitiveness of undergraduate institution, etc. "

Thanks

To me an open house is a chance to find out if a school is a good fit for you, not vice versa. If you don't go, it shouldn't affect you negatively...especially given your distant location.

However, I would assume that if you did go, you would stand a slight chance of upping your chances of acceptance through meeting the right people.

I personally wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars for an open house.

if you have the time and money, try to go. If not, I doubt that will mean 100% rejection.

Well, the only open house invitation I got was from Western and no, it's not a school that is worth spending $$$ to visit twice: once for the open house and then again a few weeks later for the interview.
