The Skype Sessions is not active at the moment (5/16/2012). I will not have time this summer to organize the minigroups and other sessions, but if you are interested in restarting the group, let me know and I can help you get started. Be prepared to give 1-2 hours/day to help people get oriented, organize the groups, and to get people involved.

The Structure of the January Groups:

Or, the windows you will see if you join the Skype Group.

• January Troopers - our main group
  General area for chit-chat and for study questions and answers, only January MCATers see this group
• MCAT Study Group Updates - bulletin board
  Used by me to announce updates and the general status of the group. Also used by others to announce various ongoing sessions ("We are going over EK 101 Test 5 in five minutes"), and to reply to updates
• Relaxation Station - chit-chat area
  Used by everyone, both January and Summer members, for general chit-chat. Anything non-MCAT related
• MCAT Study Group 3 - study area
  Unused so far. Most likely to be used for the minigroup sessions, although we will see how everything develops.

So we were discussing in this thread of maybe starting a Skype chat session once a week, where we can discuss whatever questions or difficulties we had with passages, concepts, etc. No webcam required, in fact I was thinking of just text-chat sessions although video camera sessions can be set up as well if needed. For multiple videos in one session, someone will have to have a Skype+ account (I do not).

For the sake of organization here's a new thread.

Could whoever was interested list preferred days/times (with time zone)? I'll try to set up a weekly schedule.

Edit: Also to say, the Jan group will meet on Wednesday at 8pm EST (unless people post they can't on that day) to talk about what everyone's ideas for the group is. For anyone curious, currently we have 13 people in the group.

If you cannot meet then, post it here along with what prep books you have (TPR, TBR, EK, etc.) and I will copy-paste it to the chat as the session is going on.

It's been a while since I've posted on SDN - after taking my MCAT last month, I went on a happy hiatus. I've actually lived a life that doesn't involve using my computer all the time! Yipee!

Thought I'd chip in my two cents again about how much I benefitted from the Skype group. Not only did I have WONDERFUL study partners who drilled concepts into my head (shout out to my homeboy, Biebs), but it was also to have a sense of comrarderie amongst my fellow SDNers.

I highly recommend this group to anyone who hates studying alone, who has five million questions and would love someone to drill ideas into your head, or would love to help others understand concepts that you've mastered. We shared resources, tricks of the trade, and quizzed each other - and it was the best supplement to my TBR/TPR combo.

Please add me (sc4s2cg) on your Skype. If I add you, I don't know when you accepted and might accidentally skip adding you to the groups (Skype only lets you add people to the groups if they accepted your contact request). It's much simpler if you add me. 🙂

Update on the group:

We are creating "minigroups" of 4-6 people. The purpose of these groups is to meet once or twice a day to go over questions, problems, passages, FLs, etc. It is up to the minigroups to decide what they would like to accomplish.

Days and times are below:

Furthermore, I am creating 2 "Add to Skype" days. I will add people who requested me every Wednesday and Sunday. This is what I have been doing the past couple weeks, but I thought making it official will let people know what to expect. 🙂

I will be coming to as many groups as I can to get the ball rolling for these minigroups. Hopefully that will help in eliminating the "silence" factor. 🙂

Please let me know how we can improve the Jan group, what you think is missing, and anything else. We are all here to get 30+, but without participation the group will be kinda pointless.

People are a bit busy with school atm, and I suspect they aren't sure what to expect from the group. If you are an old timer and are available for one the minigroups above, you can get the ball rolling for that minigroup just by asking your MCAT questions (whether or not it seems active). 🙂
