For those of us who are taking the mcat this late august, is there currently any skype group? I've looked around and there doesn't seem to be any skype groups that are currently going on.

I'm using Kaplan, EK, and BR to prep for my early Sept MCAT and I thought it'll be nice to form a study group. Would anybody be interested or is there anything like this going on right now?

Thanks!

EDIT 2:

Since some are taking the August MCAT, we're looking to finish the content part of SN2ed's schedule before the beginning of August which means we'll be doing around 2 BR chapters a day and then spend 1-2 hours 4-5 times a week to discuss. We'll make a more detailed calendar soon. In the google chats, we'll basically have a brief overiew of each concept and then discuss the questions we got wrong.

Our first meeting is tomorrow 7/2 4pm PST (7pm PST). If you'd like to join, please read BR Physics chapter 1 and BR GenChem chapter 1 and do the first 1/3 of the passages.

For now, keep checking back in this thread for the next following meeting info.

EDIT 3

We have created a new google group to keep track of things. To join, visit us here. Also be sure to follow the above instructions to join our google+ "hangouts" as well.

EDIT 4

Would anyone be interested in leading the study group? I'm currently a bit swamped in a bunch of activities and won't be able to dedicate very much time in organizing stuff. If you're interested, shoot me and GeorgiadisMD a PM and also post in the google groups page. We'll basically need your help organizing the meeting times and letting us know about the passages to review.

Oh wow,, folks. Your enthusiasm is definitely healthy and necessary, as long as we all stay respectful and understanding to each other. Just to make things clear, it was already stated on this thread couple of times that the first meeting will be attempted at 7PM EST tonight. I originally invited 8 people from previous e-mails and later on added 3 more people to the 'hangout' while we were having the meeting. It was rather a short meeting of only 30 minutes and mostly, we introduced ourselves and fumbled on how we should share the calendar and when and how often we should 'meet'. Even if you missed the first meeting, it's no big deal at all.
There will be an actual meeting tomorrow (July 2, 2012) at 7PM EST.
We haven't decided on what our assignment will be as of yet, but we should get that figured out by tonight. And those of you guys who PM'd will receive an e-mail from me and hopefully couple of additional notification e-mails from google regarding the circle invitation and calendar invitation and such.
I am sure we will get to know each other better as time goes by, but regardless of the informality of the meeting, I would love if we could all behave as eager adults that are willing to compete and learn in supportive and respectful manners.

See you all tomorrow! :)

I was respectful. I was simply stating that I was not clear on google+ and as from the posts many aren't either. I didn't get an invite for the calendar or anything else that was sent.

Your point was made about the time...got it. Obviously missed the EST. Enough with the beating of the dead horse.

I missed the meeting today, but I've added you to my circle. Do I have to add everyone else separately, or are we automatically part of a group? I can't find a group function on Google+.

Regardless of how structured the study group turns out to be, I think it's good to know other people who are also studying for the MCATs. Looking at the months of studying ahead, I'd go insane pulling through alone, especially since I just graduated and am facing the fact that my ugrad social life poofed out of existence. Given how heterogenous in both locale and schedule us pre-meds are, I think that should be our primary purpose - establishing a group identity for the purpose of supporting and keeping up the morale of individual members.

Regardless, having more tangible goals and an actual schedule is pretty important to maintaining that, so I appreciate what you're doing so far. Looking forward to (hopefully) meeting everyone tomorrow!

Yes, You are right. The most important function of this group will probably be moral support as well as clearing up confusion on topics you may not understand, etc.

See you soon!

Alright everyone, be sure to add yourself to the google group. I believe someone sent out a mass email. If you did not receive it, send us your gmail and we will be sure to add you.

To anyone having trouble with the google groups - try using chrome. Google's code is a bit buggy I think, but as one might expect, they've made sure that it works with their own browser haha.

Link is: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sdn-mcat-study-group-2012

It's like a usenet group, so as long as you add yourselves you'll receive emails whenever somebody posts something. That way it's easier to keep track of everyone instead of using cc:.

hey everyone i just want to say that the past two sessions we've had have been pretty useful for us. at worst, its motivation to keep studying and at best its another way to master concepts. so please join and contribute, the more brain power the better! we are following a pretty rigid timeline based of sn2d's schedule so if ANYONE has issues with the day's topics let me know and ill add you to the skype/google+ group.

also if you are ahead of us or behind, do not think you cant join, many days on sn2d's schedule allow for a grab bag day where we can go over any topic in depth. I will be on skype basically all day, i promised myself no life this summer, so I am open to discussing random study topics. join, contribute, learn! my skype is dchasse89

tomorrow we are on doing content from day 5 and 6 of the schedule, i think... no rest on america's bday!!
